Latymer Prep

Hi. My DD has a place at Latymer prep for September, looking for any feedback on the school from existing Latymer parents. My DD is above average intelligence but I have a slight concern that she will be lost amongst the super bright academic ones. Thanks

If you do not think it's a good fit, then it's best to find another more suitable school for her. You never want a child to feel overwhelmed at school. It's good that you have thought about this ahead of time, well done.

If she passed the exam I don't think academics would be a problem.

I am not a parent at the school. What I found a bit underwhelming during the tour was that top team was a bit light on pastoral care - did not see I would see the people in charge eye to eye if needed - they did not make an effort to show interest or explain how they run things on the day. Also found the many year 6 doing the tour a bit cliquey and self elevated. I am all about confidence, don't get me wrong but you need a solid basis to build on. So overall the prep school was a couple of notches below the secondary school. Basically they invest fully in the secondary school but less so on the prep because they know they will always have demand as people apply mainly to get a place after 11+.

So depends what is important to you. 11+ entry at all costs, and more of a gamble on primary school experience. Or choose a primary you like better and trust your child will end up in the right secondary anyways, while providing the best environment during primary years. We chose the latter. Who knows what the right answer is. All I know is I am running a marathon and there is a delicate balance between building confidence and maintaining happiness for a primary schoolchild.
My two cents, and one data point of many. good luck
