Are these shoes acceptable?

I'm not sure about the soles. Are they always supposed to be black?
DD is due to start school in September but we don't know which school yet so no idea where to check. She needs the shoes now for nursery too but they aren't strict at all. What do you think ok or not ok?

Are these shoes acceptable?

Never heard of that rule so sure you will be ok. They are lovely. If it was an independent/private school then perhaps but on the basis you seem to indicate you are waiting for a place I’m assuming that’s not the case.

Most primary schools would be fine with those, unless you've gone private or super selective.

My actual concern would be can she manage to fasten and unfasten the buckles on them by herself? It makes a massive difference in terms of them being suitable for school rather than nursery if she can't, as classes have a much lower adult/child ration than nurseries, and much less time for helping with things like that.

They are super cute and would be fine for my DC's primary.

But now they no longer change for PE it's quite irrelevant

PumpkinsandKittens · 10/05/2022 14:08

My kids school still change for PE 🤷‍♀️

they would be fine at their school though

nearlyspringyay · 10/05/2022 14:10

Theyre cute and would be totally acceptable at DTs school. They had buckles in YR and were getting changed for PE and getting them on themselves fine.

The don't change for pe, but still put wellies on for wet/muddy playtime or forest school. DS's school also seem to do yoga in school uniform and socks on non pe days.

Love them - where are they from, please?

PleasantBirthday · 10/05/2022 14:18

Can I just give you a tip? M&S do fantastic school shoes that will be acceptable and look good for quite a while. They're also very good quality, very comfortable. They're also very well priced.

Oizys · 10/05/2022 14:20

They look fine. My kids school any black shoes that don’t look like trainers are fine

RandomQuest · 10/05/2022 14:20

My DD is at a private and they’d actually be fine with the soles but they have a rule that they need to be able to take them on/off themselves. They don’t change into sports kit at school but they do change their shoes for ballet, they put their school shoes after sports because it’s done on grass, once a week they wear wellies on for outdoor learning and they also do weekly swimming and are expected to fully undress/dress themselves. In short there’s a lot of shoe changing! My DD is a summer baby and definitely couldn’t manage those buckles so it would be a no for her.

Timide · 10/05/2022 16:20

@PleasantBirthday thanks! They didn't have them in the right size so we couldn't try. They seemed really heavy though!

Buckles point taken! I will look for similar but with a velrco. I just wanted to show the sole.

OP if you’re happy to spend that sort of money then I’d look at Startrite. They do the traditional type school shoes, if that’s your jam, plus loads with a Velcro strap for ease.

Heckythump1 · 11/05/2022 09:25

I wouldn't get shoes with a buckle for reception - they will be a bloody nightmare, your child will get fustrated that she takes 10 times as long as everyone else to put her shoes on and off (there are plenty of times they do this in reception) if she can even manage to do them herself!

CoffeeWithCheese · 12/05/2022 21:13

Depends on the school - none of the places my kids have gone to would have any issue with those - apart from the buckles which people have mentioned (and you can work those to loosen them up before the start of term if needs be).

Our local secondary would be having fits about the soles on them - but they have fits about absolutely everything uniform related at the best of times - none of the primaries (even in the same trust) are that bothered.
