primary schools to close in Herefordshire

37 schools in Herefordshire to be closed or forced to amalgamate. Ross-On-Wye area is one of the worst hit. Weston to close and go to Lea, St Josephs to close and go to Brampton, Llangrove to close and go to Whitchurch, the list goes on. If you can help with ideas to fight the closure please add to this thread. Make your views known.

Where have you got this info from? There are always rumours of closures but have not seen anything definite? Also, St J's is RC and its site is bigger than Brampton Abbots so how would that work?

god that's terrible. do you know anything about goodrich? so many of those little schools are fantastic for the kids but that gets forgotten. i guess eventually every kid will be in ashfield park

Goodrich is not effected but will be forced to reduce number on roll as will Walford, Gorsley and others not axed. My worry is that anyone living in Ross will not get places at the amalgamated village schools because there simply will not be room for all the children from the closing school. This is bad news for year 6 kids as the havoc will ruin their sats work, teachers and heads now have a campaign to fight. Anyone living in Ross will now have their choice limited to Ashfield Park. I am not criticising that school but it is very big and some children cannot cope with that. I hope parents in the schools not proposed for closure will stand by the village schools.

Ashfield Park is having their numbers reduced, their will be no room for local kids anywhere in ross!!!!!
Any one got any bright ideas?

There is a march in Hereford on 13th Feb against school closures. Some parents are moving their children out of the threatened schools which is a shame. Ross families should stick together and fight this. It is good for Ross to have a variety of schools.
