Hi I've had the email today with DDs school place, but that's literally all that's on there. When do we fins out things like if they have a settling in day, short days 1st couple of weeks etc? I don't want to ring if there's a process where we get more info over coming weeks. I went on the open evening but that was obviously more general. The website has the term dates and uniform info, but I'm just a bit blank as to what happens between now and September.

The school will contact you, probably around end May, with all that information. I remember feeling it seemed a long wait, but they won't have finalised things yet.

I thought National Offer day was Tuesday? I've not heard anything....? Which county are you?

ItsJustASimpleLine · 14/04/2022 13:47

Mine still says Tuesday for the offer in NE England.

Once you accept then the info is sent to the school and they get in touch for an induction etc.

Make sure you order uniform by 3rd week in July if from a specialist as they can be a nightmare.

Thanks, I'm in the NWand today is our offer day, there isn't even info on how to accept her place, it literally just has a list of the 3 schools we put and under the 1st it says an offer has been made for this school. Underneath there's a link if you want to appeal but nothing else, I think I'll ring the council and check if it's just taken as accepted if you don't appeal.

Don't worry, the school will be in touch with paperwork etc

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 14/04/2022 14:44

With some councils, you don't need to accept the offer. The school will be in touch soon. It's so frustrating waiting!

Easter has messed with National Primary offer day, as it would normally be April 16 which is of course a Saturday this week.

So National Primary Offer data was moved to Tuesday 19th, no council (England/Wales) are supposed to go early, so it looks as if someone is keen for their Easter break and has sent the emails a bit early...!

Depending on where you are, the LA may assume you are accepting unless you actively decline.

Everything else will come from the school, but it's unlikely to happen in the next few weeks, other than possibly a "welcome" letter.

ToPlayOrNotToPlay · 14/04/2022 16:51

Yep i rang and apparently you don't accept, just wait for the school to get in touch, why they couldn't just put that in the email I don't know, surely it'd save them a lot of confused calls.

The school get a list of children with a place. Parents/adults are then contacted to fill in forms (contact forms, permission forms etc.) and you'll be notified of days to meet teachers, go into school, how to get uniform etc.

As a Reception teacher it was always a favourite time of year as we would have parents and children in school for a session, with parents meeting in the hall for info and we'd have the soon-to-be-Reception kids in the classroom and I loved watching them as they explored "big school"!

Misses point of thread entirely, but I just assumed the 'Offer Days' were a national date, and all LAs published their offers on the same day.

It could well be quite a while before you hear anything from the school though. Quite commonly after 1/2 term before any visit or meeting. Schools won't know their staffing for September until after 1/2 term.

Hello, primary school admin here. We send our offer letters and induction dates out within a couple of days of offer day, so those will go by the end of this week. The next few weeks are for all the boring stuff - getting acceptances, checking addresses, sending out admissions forms. Behind the scenes, we'll also be contacting pre-schools for any background info (esp for kids with additional needs or health issues), sorting out who's going in which class etc. The fun stuff (as far as new parents are concerned) all happens in June/July - the new parent meeting, taster days for the kids and so on. It will feel like a long wait, but we need to do the boring bits first, plus as a PP said, we can't confirm our staffing for September until after the last teacher resignation cut off at half term. There's no point doing induction activities until we know who's going to be teaching each class.

In my area we don’t go back after Easter for another week. I would give it a few weeks and they will be in contact.

TokyoSushi · 17/04/2022 11:33

It's a bit like finding out you're pregnant, nothing really happens at first! The school will contact you with all sorts of information before long!
