Any other Year 2 Teachers preparing for possible moderation?

My first time in Year 2 and the evidence collecting/recording is taking hours! I've spent 3 days in school and worked every day of the holiday at home too.

Any tips for speeding it up a bit?!

I am new to Y2 this year but other than gathering all my independent writing I haven't been collecting/recording too much else.

I went on a moderation course and they said most evidence would come from after Easter so maybe it will get more onerous now? My head teacher said that moderation shouldn't be all time consuming and it is more of a professional dialogue. Maybe I'm in for a big shock!

What have you been doing that has taken so long? Bit worried now!!

I'm currently working on maths. We were told we had to have 6 pieces of evidence for each of the statements so hunting through books and recording it is taking ages. Some of my class have four or five maths books for me to hunt through!

Haven't even looked at writing or reading yet.

Wow yes I can see that would take a long time. Are you doing that for every child? Who told you that you had to do all that?

CakeRabbit · 15/04/2022 14:49

You really don't have to do that.

Who has told you 6 pieces? If it's your LA moderating team then they're wrong. There is no expectation for any amount for each statement. You need to be confident in your judgement for each child for each statement with evidence to back you up.

Collecting evidence is a lot of work but this sounds like far too much.

I’d really not be doing that right now - if ever. Writing - keep independent pieces aside for evidence and everything else maintain normal books regularly. If you can grab further evidence eg reading out loud via an iPad or whatever then great. But spending your holidays doing that - no.
If you find out you’re getting moderated, you’ll get a couple of weeks notice to compile further evidence. Then, once they come, if they want more they ask for it and give you more time.
It’s really not awful - I get the panic but you’re breaking your back over it for no purpose

I’m a ks1 moderator. I get all the evidence needed from the children’s books and certainly wouldn’t need to see each statement evidenced 6 times. You don’t need to put together evidence. The moderator will have a dialogue with you throughout the process so you can help find particular pieces of evidence on the day if needed.

ILoveMyMonkey · 20/04/2022 20:32

Why oh why are you doing that.

taught year 2 for donkeys years and only ever been moderated once and then we just went through the books together and I justified why I felt my judgements were accurate.

Don't waste your time. Be confident in your judgements. You’ll be informed if you’re going to be moderated and they’ll also tell you which kids.

Totally agree that there is no need to have 6 pieces of evidence for every statement. You do need to have evidence for every statement of the TAF but nowhere does it state how much or what kind of evidence this should be.
