Had woolworths tights rubbish, but asda was worse. Tesco not brilliant, next no good. M&S in the past have been but this year they have been awful. First they go thin on the seam at the top then we go though at the toes.
DD need new thighs as she is on a growth spur and her M&S one are already pass it after one term.
Anyone I don't mind spending a little more for good tights.

I've always been happy with ones from Peter Jones/John Lewis for dd.

Do you have an independent children's shoe shop nearby? Ours sells Pex socks and tights, which seem good to me compared to bog standard high street shops.

lexcat · 05/01/2008 16:48

Pex look good can anyone tell where I might be able to get online.
Any more idea of good tights would be greatfuly recieved

Another vote for John Lewis. If you are in their local delivery area (they are quite big) they will post them out to you. We have Adams, M&S and John Lewis and they are far and away the best (tho more expensive too) Even the colour - kind of charlcoaly grey - is nicer.

janeite · 05/01/2008 19:02

John Lewis very good; we've also been quite happy with M & S but have needed to size up.

flack · 06/01/2008 11:12

Woolworths value range -- honest, the thick denier black 1 quid/pair ones. These are the toughest I've found.

Can't even find any around here

ahundredtimes · 06/01/2008 16:34

I vote John Lewis too. And they deliver. . .

is that what you can't find LIZS?

Tinker · 06/01/2008 16:39

Another vote for John Lewis

critterjitter · 06/01/2008 22:55

M&S are the worst. I've even found holes in unopened (new) pairs. Sent them back to the shop but never heard another word. Their skirts also loose colour very rapidly.

deepbreath · 07/01/2008 00:01

I found Adams tights to be quite good for my dd. She's got long, thin toes, and tights/socks don't live long before her toes poke through! Adams have an online store, and often have 3 for 2 on schoolwear as well.

Also, the cheap and cheerful pack I bought from Primark seem to be doing OK too.

I agree with the other posters about Pex tights. Dd's got a pair with a small diamante pattern on the ankle, and all the stones are still intact after repeated wash/wear.

imaginaryfriend · 07/01/2008 00:06

Yep, John Lewis fan here. I had some rubbish ones from Next which lasted precisely 1 day.

MaLopez · 07/01/2008 00:43

Have a look on ebay. Found some on there

hennipenni · 07/01/2008 15:01

Another vote for John Lewis. Have been very dissapointed with M &S this yr.

HuwEdwards · 07/01/2008 15:03

Gap are fab.

Anna8888 · 07/01/2008 15:05

The French brand Doré Doré (DD) does excellent tights in lots of basic shades, in lots of thicknesses / ribs etc.

lexcat · 07/01/2008 19:49

Thanks everyone just to stir things up abit I notice that dd M&S tights are thermal does anyone else do thermal tight as she hates cold feet and legs. They need to be navy.

Maidamess · 07/01/2008 19:52

Thermal tights might be a bit much in the overheated sauna that is your average classroom!

I have such problems with tights that last year I went to Selfridges and bought some pairs of tights for my v tall 6 year old for £15 each - ouch. They were really great quality, proper feet etc. I was feeling great, I've spent too much money but it will be worth it. The second time she wore the tights she fell in the playground and they were ruined

John Lewis are good, and not too expensive. M&S very poor, no proper feet. I have so many pairs of tights that have shrunk, my 4 year old (only 105cm) wears washed tights in age 7-8 size. My eldest (now 7) wears 11 year old tights, but she is 138cm so I suppose that's not surprising. She's gone to school today superman style, hoping there isn't PE. Still, it beats having the crotch of your tights around your knees.
