My son is sent with pack lunches, and I recently had a phone call regarding outstanding lunch balance of £33.00. I asked for a statement, the school meals are not what my son eats, he refuses meat products. I've quizzed them and all they day is it's your sons name. They are 2 children in the class with my sons name, I'm sure they are getting mixed up. Also today I sent son with post it notes which was taken off him without an explanation. I later found out the teacher tells the children to shut up, she has said this numerous times. I'm really concerned as the children are only year 4s, 8 years of age, surely this isn't rightm The more my son talks about the school the more I want to move him. Just having a rant...

The lunches thing sounds like a simple admin error if you have two boys in the class with the same name and one is having pack lunches. I'd just stay polite and push back and keep telling them it's their admin error.

On the post-it notes and the teacher saying shut up multiple times...are you sure you're getting the full story? I'm not saying I wouldn't talk to the teacher about it, but I would approach it with the possibility in your mind that your son might be exaggerating or even not quite telling you the whole story.

I agree as my dd also year 4 told me her teacher had shouted at her but when we had parents evening a couple of days later he told us she had been spoken to a few times for talking so she was told off. Fair enough.

@teaandtoastwithmarmite it's funny, that age, isn't it. DS(8) also will say that the teacher "screamed at him" when it turns out it was a normal telling off. DS(10) had the same teacher when he was in year 3 so I know well enough that she never screams, ever.

He also talks about the time I "strangled him" with his hoodie. In fact I grabbed his hoodie when I thought he was rolling on his scooter into the road.

If the teacher really is saying "shut up" over and over again to Year 4s that is definitely not right and I would be escalating that as soon as I knew what was going on. But I would be cautious accepting your DS's account as the unvarnished, unexaggerated truth until I'd spoken to the teacher.

I’d be very surprised if the teacher is literally telling them to shut up. Are you sure that is the exact phrasing? If it is yes you need to speak to the school but as others have said at this age they do exaggerate a bit sometimes!

And again are you sure you’ve got the full story on the post its? Was he drawing or writing notes during a lesson? If I’ve repeatedly warned a child to stop faffing with something/put it away I do sometimes silently confiscate it to not further disrupt a lesson, yes there’s no explanation at that moment but they know full well why I’ve done it.

The lunch thing does sound annoying but if it’s not your child they can’t make you pay. Do they use an online lunch system? If so they can check back and see your son only has packed lunches.

Why are you sending him in with Post It notes?
