Hi there
I’m looking for advice/feedback from parents with children at Hereward House. We visited the school and absolutely love it but have just been told we’re on the waiting list. Is there any hope of getting a place? Is there anything one can do to try and improve our chance of being offered a place off the waiting list?
Would also love to hear any feedback on the school itself as I can’t find much out there on the internet.
Thanks for your help!

It's a nice school owned by a family. The Headmaster used to teach French at Westminster Under and has been at HH over 8 years so very stable management. Very good leavers' results for a small school. I haven't heard anything negative about it. I hope your son gets a place.

Thank you njshore. Do you mind me asking what the pastoral side of things is like? How are things like bullying dealt with? And is it a highly pressurized/academic hot house environment? I know it’s reputation is that it’s a nurturing school but it would be great to hear from the experience of families whose children go there. Thanks so much!

DS is in Upper school and been there since reception. It’s a lovely nurturing school and Mr Evans is fab. Really knows and understands the boys. The boys are kind and respectful.

I can’t think of any bullying episodes since my DS has been there so can’t comment on how it’s handled.

It’s a small school with limited facilities and space. You’ll just have to accept that as it won’t change unfortunately. Some parents are quite precious about this but it shouldn’t really come as a great surprise!

I would recommend calling the school several times each term to enquire about places. They do come up. Hereward has lots of International families (a huge positive for the school) and people do move for work.

Thank you mbell. Appreciate the advice!

Hi mbell sent you a pm. hope that's ok

Hi @mbell,

I would be really interested to speak to you or another mum at Hereward House more about your experience at the school. We are really in love with the school and hope to receive an offer this week. (Our situation is slightly different hence the different timeline for offers). This is our number one choice but we want to hear first hand from parents, especially when it comes to SEN and gifted enhancements. Would you be able to PM me or if you are tied up, maybe connect me with another parent at the school, maybe even someone who is more familiar with the SEN provision at HH?

Thank you so much in advance!

mbell · 07/02/2022 12:02

@justanothermum2

Can I suggest waiting until offers out. SEN needs are very individual and you are best off asking the school directly. They will be able to give you information on the specific areas affecting your son.

There are no Gifted enhancements that I am aware of. The majority of boys leave and move on to highly academic schools. Most boys will therefore be working at “gifted” standard most of the time I guess.

justanothermum2 · 07/02/2022 12:17

Of course, thank you @mbell

We are of course speaking to the school about SEN. It is always useful to get a perspective of a parent with a child at chosen school. I will wait until we hopefully receive and offer and might be in touch again then.

The headmaster is really an amazing man. They are very results driven and work the boys extremely hard but its still a school with a heart.

Leapfrog80 · 29/09/2022 20:15

@justanothermum2 Just wondering if you did end up at Hereward, and if so, what the answers to your questions about the school were? Welcome to PM me if you’d prefer! Would love to hear your thoughts

justanothermum2 · 30/09/2022 15:55

@Leapfrog80 We ended up choosing Hereward House as we think it's a brilliant school. However, our son is only starting next year there, so I wouldn't be able to comment on first hand experience yet.

Leapfrog80 · 30/09/2022 16:05

@justanothermum2 Ah wonderful! Congratulations, and it would be great to hear how you get on. Good luck with it all.

Hello All. Anyone can please give insights as to what to expect from the meetings with the Headmaster at Hereward House? We have our meeting next week and we are really anxious about it as this school is one of our top choices?

mbell · 07/10/2022 12:09

Nothing to worry about at all! Pascal Evans is a very, very nice man.

He’ll ask about whether you have certain secondary schools in mind and maybe discuss 11+ vs Common Entrance.

Otherwise he’ll just be trying to get a sense of you supporting your child’s education and that you are involved.

Cayenneshiloh · 07/10/2022 13:49

Thanks a lot Mbell.
we have no plans yet for after the 11 is that bad?
also I left my high warning job to be a full time carer for the children and accompany them in the 1st years of their lives. Is that proof enough that we are dedicated to our childrens. Education or are there other ways I should be proving this? Thanks for your insight.

mbell · 07/10/2022 15:09

Not at all. He just will want to know what educational aspirations you have for your child. We had none for our son, he was only 4 at the time! We had no idea on schools and were happy to be guided by the school.

More that you read with your child, will support school work etc.

Cayenneshiloh · 07/10/2022 16:59

Thanks a lot mbell. I feel reassured 🙏🏽

Does anyone can share some idea about the year7 and 8 education in Hereward House?
