Hi! I need some information regarding reception entry in Guildford High school. Does anyone has idea what is expected in GHS 4+ assessment or how to prepare for that? Also if you have experience about GHS can you please share yours? i can't find any review about GHS clearly online any help would much appreciated. Is there any other good primary school in GU1,2 and 3? We are planning to move GU3 this year end. Thanks!!

No info on the specifics of the GHS 4+. The school has a reputation for being very academic and somewhat hard to get into, as competition is usually fierce. I'm.sure your daughter will do just fine.

Other independents in thise postcodes include Tormead Pre School & Rydes Hill Prep School, both are excellent, with Tormead going through to Sixth Form, like GHS. There are many state schools.

@HappyMumArthi , Guildford High Junior school won Sunday Times Independent prep school of the year 2015-16. It's a high achieving junior and senior school with entry particularly tricky age 7, see the current 7+ thread.
Unless your dd is a achieving beyond her peers you need a back up school of which there are luckily many in the Guildford area as well as good state primaries.

The GHS 7+ thread in the the Education section. If you ask there you may get advice re state primaries.

If you daughter goes to nursery then she will be prepared to take GHS 4+. They are looking for girls who are willing to learn, engage in play etc. She needs to know how to write her name, reading is not required. They normally do it on two separate days: one for individual assessment, another one is a party. It is a lot of fun and girls enjoy it. My daughter has been in GHS since Reception, and is now in the Senior school. She always loved it: Junior school is fun, with very little homework: sports, music, other activities are fantastic. There is more work in the Senior school but plenty of time to continue with sports, music, drama, etc. Smile

@Behappy29 thank you for the information. Just wondering how will they know to write name before going to school? My daughter is 2.5 years old now she will go for the assessment this November she is yet to pick up writing.

It does not have to be perfect and most likely your daughter will be able to do it by November. If she can't I am sure it is not going to be a problem / selection criteria. Mine is May birthday and was able to do it well before the assessment. We are only in January: I am sure your daughter will learn a lot between now and November. They do a lot of crafts during party part of the assessment.
