Hi all, we are going to apply the school for my DS this year. Would anyone have any comments on Dulwich Prep (DPL) / Eaton House Manor? Are both schools good feeder schools for Eton College? Thank you.

Either should be fine, both a quite trad, reliable hearty sort of schools.

They're not that close to each other, and parking is a nightmare round Eaton House the Manor, so do think about the school run

Why Eton College?? For its name or?? You might be in the wrong direction if you are considering DPL or EH will prepare you for Eton College.

DPL is a great feeder school for Eton. The two schools have a good relationship which goes back many years and a good number of boys apply and get in each year.

So above are the facts - which I'm sure you can read & digest by yourself.

If you think your DS will be the top 3 kid among c70-80 kids in DPL (seems like they are sending many kids to WUS SPJ anyway) - then try DPL.

EH the manor hasn't sent any child to Eton since 2017.

So - hay hoo. You judge.

As a current parent of a child attending Eaton House the Manor, I would advise you to think carefully and asses what would you like at the ultimate academic and overall developmental outcome for your child.

Eaton House has a high level of academic rigour but is very minimal on pastoral care and individual child development and support. You may want dedicated individual care and attention towards your child, but can anticipate a small class with 20 plus children and yourself as a parent being charged with having to ensure that your own child meets academic goals.

Ensure that you pick the school that will meet your expectations and future anticipations.

Just to add those leavers’ results aren’t quite right. My DS left DPL last year for KCS but it doesn’t appear in the leavers’ destinations at all. He is there now! There were 3 boys who went to Eton in his year (with one King’s scholarship) and a few more offers which weren’t taken up because the boys chose London day schools instead. I think the entry process was quite disrupted last year by covid which may by why the published results aren’t the same as the final outcomes but the school should be able to confirm.

Neither get the volumes of an eg Sussex House or Westminster Under into Eton. But they are less selective and I suspect have parents interested in a wider set of options. Both schools are great - have heard mixed things about the DPL head but the school itself seems fantastic. And EHTM ticks all the boxes too - friendly, good academics and of course great playing fields unlike the central London schools. As others have said I'd be minded to go to the closest one to you - making the daily rhythm an easy one is important for both you and the kids

Most DPL boys live close-ish to DPL (within 5 miles or so) and there are great indies nearby - Alleyn’s, Dulwich College, Trinity & Whitgift, so the pull of other central London independents and boarding schools is not as great.

It has no playing fields, and just like other central London schools uses the nearest green public space.
