1 2 1 Tutor or Explore Learning or First Class Learning

I am trying to get some tuition for my son, year 3 - young but not doing great in maths and my help isn;t working. How important is it to have a qualified teacher? I want him to learn they way schools teacher so he doesn't get confused.

Thus far the choices i have are

121 tutor - face 2 face / online or a tuition centre.

The tuition centre near me is Explore Learning, it has great views on google but the problem for me that most of the tutors are teenagers themselves and I used some programme.

The only centre is First Class Learning where the person who owns the franchise is the one who manages the learning but i believe she would have gone through some training.

I am unsure of the centres but they have excellent reviews on google which makes me question if i am being snobby in wanting a teacher.

Any suggestions?

Also - at this age is face to face better than online or is the difference too small to considered?

I'm an ex head teacher who wanted to use my skills when I finished working in schools and was interested in tuition. I looked at franchises both Explore Learning and First Class learning. I was shocked at the costs to buy the franchise, materials etc. plus the fact that there was no experience of teaching necessary. As a result I decided to start my own business as a teacher teaching. I suggest you look for a qualified teacher doing face to face as opposed to a teenager being paid minimum wage to hand out generic worksheets.

I sent all four of mine to Explore Learning at one point. They really liked it and definitely learned a lot as whatever computer teaching system they use obviously works - that said I then sent one of my children to their 11plus course which has more "tutor" input, and this is when I realised that the staff did not have any teacher training. I took my daughter out and sent her to a local tutor and she did well, while her friend who stayed at Explore did not.

With that, I think it depends what your child needs. Mine loved going to Explore and ended up ahead in maths at school so I would recommend it based on that. But for bespoke help, no I wouldn't.

You need a proper teacher not just a recent university graduate.

Where are you based?
