Son has just started a nursery which goes on to year 1 then feeds into another bigger primary school. We have an unusual opportunity to move him to the bigger school next year.

Pros are:
Bigger school is nearer us
Much nicer premises (outdoor space, classes etc). Current school in a more polluted place
He will be going there any way in year 2

Cons are:
He takes a while to settle so might be nice to be in a small (same) school while he is young
Staff at current school are really lovely
Current school is nearer my parents who do pick up (but still need to get him back to us!)
Moving early is not usually done so feel a bit bad about it!

Wwyd? Thanks in advance!

Distance is a leisurely 5 minute cycle vs 15 minute cycle (away from work) going super fast!

So if he moves next year, that is presumably for Reception, so I assume there will be lots of new children. Why do you feel it is unusual to move if it is your nearer school?

If he moves for year 2, will the whole class go with him? Are you in England? I thought schools typically were infants to include year 2 and you switched for year 3.

It sounds like you prefer the bigger school in quite a few ways, but are concerned about the size and feeling awkward. Do you have to decide by January to apply for a Reception place? I'd probably lean towards the bigger school for ease. However I can see the positives of staying where he is assuming he is settled and assuming he will move across with others in a few years.

Thank you very much for the response! Yes I am leaning to bigger school but do feel awkward. We're in France so slightly different set ups. The pollution bothers me too but the little school is very lovely!

Most of the class will move with him but it's very small so only need 2 or 3 to do something else and it'll only be a handful
