What should DS wear for the 4+ admissions interview?

Hello,
My DS has some reception assessments coming up.
We don’t live in the UK at the moment, so we weren’t really sure about the dress code.
Is it shorts, nice loafers, shirt? Does he have to wear a tie or a blazer?
Sorry - may be a silly question but just want to make sure

No experience of these kinds of interviews but I would have thought something that he likes and feels comfortable in would be a better bet. Perhaps if he's very keen on eg dinosaurs, space, animals etc, a top with those on - it would be a natural talking point.

AnotherNewt · 22/09/2021 09:03

It's not strict. I'd go for shorts or trousers with shirt and jumper or good quality sweatshirt

Something he likes and feels comfortable in. A talking point top as a PP suggests would be great I think. I’ve done a couple of these interviews and I’m very much of the opinion that any school that expects you to stuff a 3YO into a suit and pretend to be a mini adult is a place to avoid like the plague.

There is no dress code. Normal comfortable clothes. Somewhat smart is common but definitely not anything formal like a tie.

Good luck

My two wire what ever they wanted but were smart. Not tracksuit bottoms and clean and tidy and matching.

PennyWus · 23/09/2021 02:23

A tiny little suit and a bow tie, a briefcase and oiled hair with wire-rimmed glasses would be good.

@Mumke82, 4+ assessment are generally play-based, so he should wear something he's comfortable playing in, that isn't going to restrict or distract him or make him fidget, and that he can manage easily by himself if he suddenly needs the loo.

Usernamehell · 23/09/2021 13:17

When DD had her assessments, all children who went to nursery that had uniform wore the nursery uniform to the assessment (preschool uniforms are always tracksuits here).
Otherwise, boys tended to wear trousers with a t-shirt/casual shirt and jumper. DD wore casual skirts and dresses (her choice)

As PP have said, so long as clean and not scruffy, it is fine.

Helenluvsrob · 23/09/2021 13:22

He’s going to be playing and interacting with other kids that’s what they want to see so anything that’s clean , free if holes and comfy - shorts and a t shirt , non tatty joggers etc.

Remember he doesn’t need to spend all the time fiddling with his new buttons in his shirt and will be expected to demonstrate independence if he goes to the loo so no zip fly 😂

TheWashingMachine · 23/09/2021 13:50

I'd avoid joggers but anything else is fine, if they've chosen all the better at least they are independent. I honestly cannot remember what mine wore, DD probably wore a tutu.

Mumke82 · 23/09/2021 14:07

Thank you so much for all the helpful advice. I really appreciate it - guess I will let him choose (within reason!) and make sure he is comfortable! Sorry as we are so new to this!

I'd ask his current nursery/kindergarten on what to wear.
