What happens if I refuse to take my ds to the school we end up with?

My ds nearest school is a really bad school. We live almost the same distance away from about 4 other schools.I have put down 3 of those schools and they are all oversubsribed.Could I end up being given none of my choices and end up with rubbish one?
And-What would happen if an appeal failed and then I flatly refused to take him to the rubbish school?

Mum2oliver - what's the Ofsted like? don't go on what you hear - go on what you see and what you read. It's a very strange characteristic of a lot of parents that they like to slag off the school other people's children go to. Strange but true.

seeker, the ofsted is ok but as i said it achieves low and all the other things i said.

how could anyone possibly know 'most kids get free school dinners' - that and the othe stuff you've said about the school just sounds like complete gossip to me. no doubt its because its on a council estate.

prettybird · 12/12/2007 01:39

If it is like Scotland, the FME (Free Meal Entitlement" is used as a proxy for deprivation and forms part of the officialstats for the school. So it is not just gossip.

seeker · 12/12/2007 04:39

The number of children taking free school meals is part of the official statistics of a school - it's considered a pretty accurate indicator of the level of material deprivation among a school's intake.

However, I'm still not clear what's wrong with the school in question. The Ofsted's OK, but I don't know what the results are like or what the Value Added figures are - difficult to comment without all this sort of info.

50% SEN but still has a CVA of 100.8. Might not be as bad as you think- sounds like the children make good progress.

seeker · 12/12/2007 22:08

Can I ask why you think it's a really bad school? Ofsted don't think it is - and it looks as if children achieve well, even if a lot of them start at a pretty low baseline. It sounds as if the school is aware of the areas where it need to improve - and a recent Ofsted underlining this tends to concentrate the mind! Do you know someting that the inspectors missed? (Highly possible, they are only in for a day or two with the school in it's party frock!)

Im being a snob.I know I am.I just want him to go the better ones. Take a look at Millbrook Infant school,Ketering.
