Which 11+ practice book?

Hi.

My dd is soon going to sit entrance exams for independent schools and we can't afford a tutor so I thought I'd get her some 11+ practice books. It looks like there are two different types of assessment though.

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the GL assessment and the CEM assessment, and how I know which book I should get?

It's a minefield!

You get the book for the style of testing done by the school you are interested in.
So, if school does CEM, get an 11+CEM practice book.
We didnt do 11+, but have had both Bond and CPG books for verbal and non verbal practice when there wasnt much work coming from schools in lockdown. I have a preference for CPG.

It depends on which schools you are applying for - they should have some guidance on their websites and/or past papers? Some schools will set their own question papers, so they don't use GL or CEM. Regardless, you will need to try and cover a broad curriculum for maths and English - which most books will do.

I quite like the CGP books - depends to an extent what year your child is in and how much time you have to prepare? Some of the VR is quite different between GL and CEM, and NVR can be too. It's worth exploring which schools you're targeting, get some past papers if you can and look through the books to see which type of format you prefer (eg in WHSmiths, or the library for example).
