Don't know that one -it's not on the government list.

Azzurri Communications Ltd
Etech Group
Fronter
Netmedia Education
Pearson Education Limited
Ramesys
RM Education plc
Serco Ltd
UniServity
Viglen Limited

Maybe your ICT co-ordinator could ask them about Leasrning platforms & clcs - if they are going to The Bett exhibition in January they could find out more.

Afraid I've not had time to read whole thread. So apologies if someone has already said this. One thing thats quite good our newish HM introduced is 'effort grades' for the juniors - monthly marks out of 10 for effort in maths, english, science, history, geography, homework and conduct. It doesn't address all the feedback issues but its quite a good tool for motivation/discussing with kid why geog isn't so good as other subjects type of thing.

You have lots of communication, well done cods school.

Our headteacher is also on the playground everyday and turns up at all the events whether they're organised by school or PTA, as do most of the staff in fact. And the social calendar is really busy so you get to see the teachers all the bloody time. The Head also runs a prayer group for parents in her office one morning week. Not everyone's cup of tea...

Parents are invited to attend a few school assemblies each year as well as special services in the church, we have 'theme weeks' which involve the entire school and hordes of parents who don't usually help out on a weekly basis come into to do science projects/trips out etc.

We have home/school diaries and books for writing reading comments in.

The website has areas for teachers, children & staff, there is a section for explaining and submitting homework, your class curriculum, a very good diary, all the school/PTA letters are on it as well. Each class has it's own pages which usually include text & photographs from school trips/special projects or artwork or just what they've been doing during class - this week Reception & Year 1 are photographed decorating the tree with the Head, which KS1 do every year. We also have a massive sport section because we win everything. Possibly because the head has the loudest gob when supporting her school teams.

We are frequently in the local papers, for interesting projects, fundraising & foreign school/charity links (as well as our fab sporting prowess) and often have artwork displayed at the local library.

I'm quite happy with what I get, actually. There's a website, letters home (you do have to negotiate the fact they're being brought home by a six year old, of course, but that is intrinsic to six year olds), notices on the class door (WE HAVE PE ON THESE DAYS PLEASE BRING YOUR KIT OR ELSE!) and I feel quite happy to go and nobble the extended schools co-ordinator in the school office.

It's also a very friendly school. Everyone's known by their first names. A culture of approachability and all that.

I am, however, an unutterably slack/smug parent who has pointed out to my child's teacher that her progress at school is entirely the result of the school, not the parental influence.

motherinferior · 04/12/2007 19:37

...so frankly I'm quite happy not having to support her education much, I find life wearing enough as it is. The alternative is a stack of Tasks Not Done and general Guilt.

Have not read all the thread as I am supposed to be makrking but my dd school which is very good at face to face contact has a shite website. Lots of information could be given via that website IMO.

UnquietDad · 04/12/2007 22:44

Our current school is excellent for communication. Not so the school where DD spent Reception and part of Y1, where important messages were either given verbally at the end of the day or stuck up on the classroom door. Great for working parents, obviously.

twinsetandpearls · 04/12/2007 23:26

yes have to admit my dd school does lots of sticking notices on the door. For example the school nativity dates were on the door for weeks before they were officially sent home. It will be working parents who need the most notice but who will be the most unlikely to see the notice.

One thing all schools here in Australia have which I think is really nice, is they have a board outside the school with messge changed weekly or bi weekly. It might be something simple like non uniform day Thursday.. or some thing marking an achievment like Well done Arthur in the state finals. It's always positioned by the main entrance so parents can see it. Makes school part of community.

Also have amazing presentation nights for every school including primaries where they have speeches and gallons of awards and medals and prizes and every parent pretty much attends. Head gives review of year, new captains anoounced etc. Excleent event for brining community together.

I have to say my DCs school is fantastic on communications.

As well as all the usual stuff (weekly newsletter; all notes by email; very good website; school home book and separate reading record book; lots of assemblies/curriculum evenings) we have:

Plasma screens just by the entrance with reminders of things (plus it has up children's birthdays, which they love);

Text alerts - eg when there was snow last year we all got a text about 7am confirming that the school was open;

Really pleasant and efficient office staff who always respond to emails within about 20 mins;

Head or deputy on duty at school door every morning - every child has to say good morning and shake hands before going in.

TBH the school is very good at knowing its target audience and what makes them happy.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/12/2007 17:38

We had a plasma screen. It got nicked
