How often to read the reading books at home?

Is daily reading essential? How often of optimum?

I have a really struggling year 2 reader who has just grasped blending CVC words. Should I aim for competency there first?

I'd take it at their pace tbh. Definitely reading every day if you can, even if it's just 10 minutes. One of my dc really struggled to grasp reading (late summer baby) but as soon as it clicked he was off.

Good luck!

I have a wonderful reader and books with 10 pages - 2 sentences per page. He reads the book in 2 minutes, we discuss the story. What else should I do?
He refuses to read the same book every day and I don't see the point in it either.
Teacher asking us to fill the Reading record every day with page numbers and comments.
What do you write in the reading record? I just write - read the book easily and discussed the story...

Surround him with books and read to him as much as you're able.

I think it is essential to listen to them read every day. Try and make it a pleasant experience, which isn't always easy!

I would also go through the sounds every day too. Set a timer for three minutes and go through all of the sounds quickly on flash cards until the timer goes.

Reading should be fun. I would do a short bit of the school reading book a night but still do bed time stories with books they enjoy and you read.

Thank you, I'm trying to keep it as positive and fun as possible as it has been a very long road to this point.

I have flash cards so I will try and incorporate those into our day too and will make sure to hear her read daily.

She really struggles with her working memory so it can be a bit like pulling teeth and I don't want to put her off :(

Here is a video of the sounds for the pronunciation. This is set one but the other ones are on there too. For you not her I mean!
