Alternatives to sweets/chocolate for goodie bags?

My DS (in Year 1 of primary school) will be 6 in a couple of weeks.
In his class, most of the children bring treats or goody bags to hand out to the rest of the class.
I know staff aren't keen on the edible sort of treats due to all the dietary restrictions and allergies etc.
I'm looking for ideas on non edible little treats. Don't want to spend a fortune though. Last year I spent over £50 and got just 1 "thank you". Even the mums I see every day didn't bother with so much as a thank you.
If left to me I wouldn't bother buying stuff to hand out to the other 30 kids in the class but this is a big thing for my son and he wants to do it! xx

Check out mini puzzle books on EBay

For 8£ you can get 15 puzzle books and 15 mini crayon packs.

Plasticine

You can get sweets suitable for most allergy sufferers. For example a Chupa Chups lolly or Love Hearts are free from dairy, egg, gluten, nuts and pork. The stuff we find gets a few minutes of attention are stickers and bubbles. Stuff like plasticine, mini crayons, puzzle books, tat toys etc go straight in the bin. It’s so wasteful, I really hate when parents do it tbh. But I do say thank you to their faces obviously.

When winter rolls round and they're going home in the dark, those glow stick thingies go down well

I'd go with 2 different packs of sweets, like the ones mentioned above, so if one's unsuitable they can have the other.

It's just a token gesture to the other kids. If you're getting upset about not getting a thank you you're probably putting far too much money and effort into the whole thing.
