Apologies as I am not on Facebook so don’t have the benefit of local forums!
Does anyone know this school? Hoping for parents’ opinions.

It doesn't get very good results. Not sure what the ethos, pastoral side is like as don't know anyone who has had children there.

I know someone who had a child there a few years ago, and she never had anything bad to say about it. I also know someone who had a child at Wakefield Methodist school, who was always impressed with it, if you're looking at Thornes.

@Peanutsandchilli thank you. Yes Thornes. Also looking at ST Ignatius in Ossett but don’t know what our chances are of getting a place there? (we are catholic)

I actually live in Ossett and know of a couple of children who have attended St Ignatius who live out of catchment. It was a few years ago though. Last year they had 46 applications for 20 places, but that includes every application whether it was first or fifth preference for the parents. They will take baptised children out of catchment over non-baptised children within catchment. St Ignatius covers Ossett and Horbury, whereas Thornes is probably English Martyrs but I don't know anything about that school, I'm afraid. I'd say you stand a risky chance of getting a place at St Ignatius but you'd be better off in Ossett or Horbury if it matters to you.

@Peanutsandchilli thank you so much that is very helpful! I am going to phone them next week. My dd is nursery age so going to enquire about places (I know this is unlikely now) but don’t suppose you know if children more than linger into the school full time if they are in nursery already?

@Extraslice No, attendance at the nursery doesn't put them ahead of any other child when it comes to reception places. They may have more nursery places available than reception places, as they'll probably do morning and afternoon sessions (I'm not completely sure but it's how most schools work), so you may easily get her into nursery, but they'll look at reception applications completely separately. You can, of course, keep her on the waiting list if you apply and she doesn't get in.
