Applying out of borough

My DD won't start school until next September but the chances are, we will have moved house and out of the Borough by then. We won't have moved by the time the applications need to be submitted.

Can you apply out of borough or is it better to apply where we are living and then try and move schools? Feels like a lot of upheaval for a just turned 4 child.

We are in London if that makes any difference.

You can apply anywhere but you are very unlikely to get an out of borough place unless the school is unpopular. It is better to apply where you are living and change schools when you know your new address.

You can apply for any school you want. But you may be way down the application list based on criteria.

I believe London get five choices... you could always mix and apply for houses near where you live now and where you are moving too, especially if you have a school you are almost guaranteed a place in

(For what its worth... my friend applied for a school 30 miles away because they were moving. They got a place as there was space. They moved a week after school started. )

Thanks. We do actually have two very good schools close by and we would be in the catchment for both. Although I know that one of the schools had to limit its catchment area to half of the road it is on a few years back.

I might try a mix of the two Boroughs. Thanks!

We are actually 0.2 miles away from our preferred school in our current area.
