Summerfields, Dragon in Oxford

Hello - For my job, we are moving to Oxford from abroad. Son is sporty, bright, boisterous, social. He will not board until secondary school. I know that The Dragon has a new Headteacher Emma something and a reputation of being a fun, enriching school with a lot of public speaking and drama. I've been told that Summer Fields has a lovely Headmaster, instills good manners, and is great about letting wiggly boys expend their energy running and playing. I've pored over all the threads here about both of these two schools but if any of you can add any up-to-date information, insights, impressions etc. that would be most helpful. Thank you in advance.

They are v different. Dragon is a lot bigger, co-ed, and vast majority of children are day children. As you say there’s a(nother) new head and who knows how that will go. Summer Fields is boys only, and more of a feel of a traditional boarding prep, plus the head is well established and a known quantity.

IMO children need to have a quite a big/social personality and be good at sport/music/drama to do well at the Dragon, else they can get a bit lost and overlooked. Sounds like your son ticks those boxes though.

Isn't Dragon an all through school and a good one, which would give you at least a backup for secondary.

@coronateachingagain

No Dragon is not “all through” - like Summer Fields it is 4-13 only.
