Don't suppose anyone knows roughly what book band the Titchy Witch books would be?

My 5 year old (just finished reception) picked one up at the library as part of the summer reading challenge, I thought it was going to be far too hard for her, but she's just read half of it to me really fluently! Obviously i've under estimated her reading ability!

I reckon maybe orange?

A quick Google suggests purple which my dd was reading at about midway through Year 1 and she's a strong reader, so your dd looks to be strong too

Having said that, once dd was above the basic book colours, there is much more that the school want to evidence in terms of comprehension and expression etc rather than simply decoding the words, so good to ask some questions about what she has read and look at how the characters are feeling and how she could show that in her voice etc

Thanks, she's only been on blue/green books at school, so i'm quite suprised by that!

Her teacher did say at parents' evening that she will fly through the book bands in Y1 though and she's definitely reading better recently, giving the characters different voices etc :)

My dd also reads at a higher level on books of her choosing - I sometimes find the book band books quite dry and/or old fashioned (some of dd's were there when I was at her school!) so definitely think they read better when they are enjoying the story/tooic

It was green in my daughter's school. I was surprised as thought it looked tricky but it is obviously written in a way to make it accessible to young children

My daughter read them when she was on green book band. The vocabulary is restricted and they aren't that long. If she's up for something slightly harder, one of the next series my daughter moved on to was the Princess in Black.
