I hadn't noticed that bit - yes, it really is (currently) very English biased and would confuse any Scots or Irish.

Our method (and age) of starting school, our way of funding (including religious), our inspection system......

My school, and DSs' school are having a 3.5 week holiday starting on Good Friday.

It will make for a lovely long summer term, with the wide choice of sports Love it!

thank ww seems to be the same round here. (though not sure about the private schools would they be any different?)

Wheelybug · 27/11/2007 18:59

OOh I spotted this on dd's swimming schedule last night - its v. bizarre. I hadn't paid much attention to her pre-school terms but will check.

Hulababy · 27/11/2007 19:01

DD's school are still having their normal 3 weeks holiday with Easter in the middle of it I think.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 27/11/2007 19:02

Very annoying - I was hoping that as Easter ws going to be early we'd have a better chance of skiing weather, but they've kiboshed that by having later school hols - grrrrrrr!
A freind of mine In Wimbledon who has children at three different schools has non-ovelapping hols , so hers will be off for a total of 6 weeks, but not together

artichokes · 27/11/2007 19:04

Parliament is having the same pattern of hols. This is a first for them too. Are they copying the schools or are schools copying them?

WendyWeber · 27/11/2007 19:05

Blimey, MrsGuy!

Mind you as long as she doesn't have any child care issues that could be quite nice, as they'll each get lots of undivided attention for a change

Hulababy · 27/11/2007 19:06

Just checked to make sure. DD's school breaks up at close of day on Thursday 20th March and they go back on Tuesday 15th April.

I've got this with my 2. One school has Easter not actually in the holidays, ie go back for another week after the Easter weekend. Bit of a pain in a way, but means I get some time on my own with each child at one end of the holidays!

jellybrain · 28/11/2007 21:00

We have the split easter in Oxfordshire - has been like this for 2 or 3 years now. The school year is divided in to 6'equal' terms (no half term anymore)though the length of terms does seem to vary between 28 and 40 days.
Easter isn't a problem because neither Dh or myself work BH though I see it woulod be a problem if you did - despite the recent change in holiday pay legislation.

There was a great deal of excitement when the changes were first proposed as we thought we might get cheaper holiday deals but, as Wendy Weber has pointed out the holiday companies have just extended the peak rate weeks so, it hasn't got around the problem of families taking hols during term time.
