What age child do you think did this writing?

I'm concerned daughter is behind, but haven't had any communication from school, despite asking. I'll attach photos to show examples of her writing.

  1. What age would you expect this from?
  2. Any suggestions to improve?

Thank you.

There are many good suggestions for making letter formation fun in that OT link.

Writing on sandpaper is an excellent sensory experience for learners.

Looks like my DD's handwriting - she is currently in year 1. Her teachers have picked up that her writing isn't great and she has taken part in interventions for dyslexia and dyspraxia due to other issues and she is showing signs, but they say it's still early, so they're not putting her in any boxes yet, just watching and waiting. Is it something you could discuss with the SENCO?

My yr1 is very similar to this. I'm not worried.

They've missed a term of reception and a term of year 1 no wonder a little behind. If it even is behind.

Dyslexia wouldn’t be on my radar yet at this age and stage, though I’d be recommending small group work for next year. They’re assessed by a standard that was set before they spent the best part of a school year out of school. Many other children in her class will likely also appear to have immature writing.

Reception age.

It would be interesting what child could write outside of context of this work book. We assess based on a piece of narrative or recount typically. Do they use phrases or sentences? Do they use capitals, spaces, full stops etc?

However it could be an end of Reception / early Y1 child based on phonics coverage and attempt to use sounds in words.

The work book is dire. If this is what is used at home it won’t engage a child. Focus on reading, sounds and letter formation at home. Leave the writing teaching and practise to school.

when zoom I am in England.

Birmingham Outside of this work book she attempts to write sentences but doesn't consistently use finger spaces, capitals, or punctuation.

The diary isn't the issue as she does really enjoy it. We also do lots of reading together, phonics games, handwriting practice books. I am trying hard to support her at home.
