She is of course going to be upset after having them done and she still hasn't settled into reception class. So would it be better to keep her home or should i take her in?
Please help me decide before seeing her teacher this afternoon!

Well, it depends on the child I guess.

Mine would go to school because we've never had any issues with jabs.

I'd keep her off if it will upset her, then upset again at break in school routine.

If she's in reception, it will hardly set a precedent - just tell her it's not a school day.

Will she be upset? DD (3.9) had some done a week or so back and was fine (apart from a stern look at the nurse).

Didn't even really need the sweets I taken with me to mollify her.

She was upset when she had her pre-school jabs. She is a sensitive girl. She will probably moan all day that it hurts!

I was braced for DS2 having them done a month ago and he didn't even whimper - he was incrediably brave. Even DS1 who kicked up a hell of a fuss was OK after 10 minutes. I wouldn't bother keeping her home.

That said their arms may hurt after 2 or 3 hours when the tetanus kicks in but it isn't awful and if she is at school she probably won't even notice.

Its Hib and men C.
I didn't know she was even due anymore!

I would ask her - tell her it will hurt for about 10 minutes and ask if she wants to spend an hour or two recovering in bed, or go back to school to play with her friends.

She would choose home even if it meant staying in bed!! She really doesn't like school

Any other opinions? I didn't get a chance to see teacher today after school!

She doesn't NEED to be kept off school. But if you think she could do with the day off and you don't have any problems with looking after her, then let her stay home.

biglips · 20/11/2007 10:52

err..i wouldnt let my DD off school unless she suddenly ill after having the injections

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 20/11/2007 11:31

Spoke to her teacher and DD1 and she is happy to go to school after.(at the moment!)
She actually went into school today with no tears for once!
Thanks for all responses.

Perhaps she figured that even going to school was better than having injections!

Glad she is OK and injections are over and done with for a few years.
