How many uniforms?

Hey,

First DS going to school sept 2021 another son going 2022, what logic do you apply to buying school uniforms?

For the first 2 years they only need to wear a polo shirt and tracksuit.

I was thinking 4x polo shirts
X4 tracksuit bottoms
X3 jumpers

What is the best way to label them?

Thanks

Siobhan

Polo shirts buy in bulk, they seem to do lots of whiteboard work in reception so end up with black smudges on all the polo shirts, DD wore hers till I couldn't stand the stains anymore then got a new one.

Otherwise I did 3 cardigans or jumpers, 5 trousers and 10 sets of socks.

I only labelled the jumpers/cardigans, everything else stays on them all day except for PE and they put their clothes in their Pe bags when they get changed. Although worth checking whether you need PE kit in reception, we only found out that they do it in uniform after we'd already bought the kit. They didn't start getting changed for Pe till year 1.

Simple uniform like you have mentioned is very cheap so i would go for 5 of each.

Some good tips. The stuff I ordered is in, so I am going to collect it from the store and see how the sizes measure up to the child. If I can get away with it I will get the extras the next size up and 6 complete sets.

The total Cost will be £200 which is ok for something you wear every day.

My school said you can only get school uniform from the official school retailer.

5 of everything except cardigans/jumpers if they’re logoed and ridiculous prices (ours are £16 each... for infant sizes 😬) but I got 3 per kid and some cheap supermarket unlogoed one for emergencies.

Five of everything is easiest unless you like laundry. Or six if you need to leave a set in school.

For labelling we use Stick-Ins. They seem to be bullet proof. They haven't come off any clothes. There is even one on her water bottle that goes through the dishwasher daily and that doesn't budge either.

Primary school uniform here came from official school retailer too. I just bought 2 tracksuits (sold together as a top + pants set) and 2 polo shirts. These got DD1 all the way through first year and most of the way through second year. Polo shirt was white so was able to buy a couple of non-crested spares from high street. DD2 had to get a new set as she was physically much smaller starting school. Then she wore DD1's cast-offs. The tracksuits came with spare fabric pieces for patching. I did use these a couple of times to avoid buying a new tracksuit at end of school year until September.

Managed fine with just 2 sets. Maybe girls are less mucky. The playground was paved, very little access to school garden so no real threat of mud, and apron used for art/messy crafting.

Agree with all the advice on having 5 sets !

Only gem I can add is I LOVE my stamptastic stamps !

stamptastic.co.uk

I would never bother with sewing labels now and it's quicker and clearer than even a sharpie !

I use it on everything - books , lunchboxes etc as it's so easy .
