ds 8 bullied/beaten at school

Ds (8) came home yesterday with what looked like weals across his upper back and upper arm (some 6 hours after incident). Said another child had beaten him with a stick, despite 'supervisor' (TA) requesting the beating to stop it continued. Apparently this is a continued behaviour (a different child was beaten the previous day), 'offender's' father is apparently in prison.

Not sure of best approach to take with school - have already sent e-mail to head with photos of injuries. Would like advice on next steps.

Id want a meeting with the head and to know what they are going to do to prevent this from happening.

Did the other child continue to hit your son in front of the TA? Wtf didn't they remove him?

You wait to see what the head comes back with.

In the meantime you read all of the schools bullying and behaviour policies (print them out so you can highlight relevant parts) or make notes of the parts that involve physical attacks, so you will be prepared to respond accordingly to the head.

You also mention that they are failing their duty to safeguard your child (as the supervisor in the playground should've removed the child from the situation), and ask how they are going to protect them going forward.

All injuries to children should be in the school's log book and you should have had a report on the injuries if an adult knew about them - and they did.

I think you no option bujt to wiat for reply of the Head. Almost certainly they know the DC is problematic but you do need to knoiw your child will not suffer because this child is in the school. It is not "safeguarding" in terms of the safeguarding policy but this child in question ob viously needs more help than the school is giving. You cannot require that they supervise one to one (for example) bugt it is reasonable that cases of violence towards other children are dealt with appropriately. You should have been contacted about this and their silence is not a good starting point. I hope the head responds very quickly - by return - to at least acknowledge your complaint.
