Moving to Bristol soon - Primary School Decision

Hi mums,
I am currently living in London. We are moving to Bristol in the very near future and I need give a last minute decision for my son. He is Year 4 now. We are originally from Turkey. We are living in London for the last 19 months. Before we were in living in Istanbul.
Schools I should choose are ;
Henleaze Junior
Brunel Field Primary
St Teresa’s Catholic Primary
Ss Peter and Paul RC Primary

I am not Catholic, however Catholic Schools have more international students and more successful in sat scores, also small in size. These came appealing to me.
On the other hand sending to a no religious school seems to be more rational.
As I am in London I don’t have opportunity to visit schools. If you have any idea about one of these schools, please share some information.
How do they approach to international student?

I dont know but good schools tend to be quite full.
Our dc school y4 has 1 space in her class.
So mainly check they have a space

Given you need a Yr 4 space, the first thing to do once you have an address in the area is to make an in-year application to Bristol LA - you may well find you have very little choice, as Bristol schools are largely oversubscribed (and the catholic schools will had admissions arrangements that give priority to Catholics, so if they have waiting lists you will be lower down).

Bristol LA may well be able to give you an idea if any of these schools have places in Year 4, and if not, which schools do.

Henleaze is always over subscribed and I’ve never heard a bad word about it. My kids don’t go there but we live on the border of Henleaze and it’s a very popular school.

ButterflyBitch · 30/03/2021 13:51

I don’t know anything about any of the others though. Where are you moving to?

Thank you for your reply. Luckily, there is a place at Henleaze and at other schools I have listed at the moment. We let a property BS6 6YE on Redland Road. I wonder do you have any idea about the difference btw. no religious school and Catholic Schools? Would you mind sending your child to Catholic School or other schools? I need to decide until tomorrow.

Do you have access to a car?
Some of the schools on the list would be quite hard to get to from Redland Road without transport. The bus service along Redland road is not very frequent.
I would go for SS Peter and Paul because it's one of your nearest schools and your son would make some local friends. I know someone who works there and they are not Catholic, so I don't think they are very strict. The area where that school is situated is close to the university and hospitals so has a good mix of different nationalities and cultures.

Post-script there isn't really any such thing as a "non religious" school.
All schools in Bristol will cover either Catholic Christianity or Christianity along with studying festivals/cultures for other religions represented within the local community.

Yes, I know. I just want to use the term Offsted uses normally. I am not that much strict about religion at all. Thanks for your time.
