Returning to teaching- part time

Hi all,

I’m new here- this is my first post so apologies if it’s a question that’s been asked before!

I’m a teacher currently on maternity leave and due to return in September. I will be requesting to go back into work on a part time basis and I know from scouring the web that this will mean I will be on a pro rata salary. For those of you who are part time teachers, do you still get paid over the summer holidays/ half term breaks?

Have spoken to HR about this but frustratingly, they’re not giving me a yes or no response Confused

Thanks all

Yes, it will be exactly the same as teaching full time, just whatever percentage less to reflect working hours. Technically full time teachers don't get paid for holidays, it's just the pay is spread over 12 months.

Of course!

Yes, as above! Be prepared to explain why it’ll be good for the school, it wasn’t easy to get part time in a school (in my personal experience).

Independent schools are often more flexible.....
