Aldro School

Hi,

I'd love to hear the views and experience of current and recently past Aldro parents.

We are looking for a rich and balanced prep school experience, with excellent preparation for future senior schools........but without the hype and extreme pressure that seems to surround SW London prep schools and 11+/ 13+ process where we currently are.

We think Aldro might strike this balance, and it would be great to understand if our perception is close to reality.

Many thanks!

Definitely think it fits the bill of balanced but still prepping for 13+. It is fairly traditional and calm but still fun - less buzzy than places like Thomas's, Newton Prep etc if you are in SW London at the moment. Amazing grounds and solid academics. Just be sure you want a more public school style school afterwards as it very much gearing to big boarding schools. A few do go to day schools like RGS etc but it is rarer and 13+ entry at day schools is becoming less common.

It is going co-ed so will change a bit with that. Haven't heard much disgruntle from friends with DC there. A huge number of preps are having to make similar moves though as it just rarely is viable to be single sex anymore.

If you are looking at this area and co-ed also look at Highfield & Brookham, Edgeborough and Amesbury.

Thanks GreyGriraffe! Your feedback is very helpful and encouraging.

Whilst our boys are currently in an all boys environment at pre-prep, we are fully supportive of a co-ed school, as we feel it better reflects modern society and will hopefully help prepare our boys better for real world beyond school.

Interesting regarding the relationships and preparation for boarding schools. I will need to look into the day school options more closely, as boarding is not a route we want take for senior school. Whilst RGS would be amazing, I am not confident my DC would be suited / get in. So some strong alternatives are important. Perhaps a good question for the headmaster when we meet!

We loved the look of Highfield and Brookham, it is just a bit too far for us.

Thanks again!
