We have accepted an offer from WUS for Year 3 September 2021 . We will be moving from South West London to be closer to the school. Can anyone guide me which would be the right post codes to stay near the school. I did not really like the area near the school barring the square itself so definitely away from it .Which post codes do kids usually come from ? I am happy to be closer to certain tube lines or drive . Thanks a lot!

Can you give the name of the school and the town/city that it's in

Are you looking to rent or but, and what is your budget? I'm assuming that if you're selling up from London, your budget will be pretty healthy for wherever it is you are thinking of going

Depends on budget of course but Pimlico garden squares are great if you don't mind sharing outside space. I'd imagine boys come from all over though.

I'm assuming Westminster Under

What did you not like about the area? The seeming lack of proper high street, except Victoria street?

What would you be looking for exactly?

As @Legoninjago1 said boys come from all over. Also depends on your budget.

I don't live far from Victoria and I think you would be spoilt for choice in the area, surely.

Feel free to PM me.

Thank you everyone! Yes it’s Westminster Under School.@Legoninjago1 I will definitely check out Pimlico Square. Looking for 3-4 bedroom house or flat with atleast a communal garden and parking. @Mummy195 I only saw the area outside the square the road connecting the Vauxhall bridge to Victoria and drive around . Didn’t have the residential feel . Where do you live ? And long is the commute ? Belgravia and Chelsea seems nice . I am thinking of Fulham too but not sure how long it will take to commute .

Hi @Londoner78
I live, work and volunteer in Westminster, so it's my stomping ground.

If you are looking for close by, like a walking distance you may consider the other side of Vauxhall Bridge which is called Pimlico Triangle. This is the road across the gas station, near Barclays. It joins Wilton road and so on. Around this area is the daily fresh market, which also includes a fishmonger, fresh fruit and veg as well as daily takeaway food. There is everything you need including a DIY shop, Tesco, Waitrose, post office, a variety of restaurants, bars and ofcourse a large Sainsbury and Argos. You simply have to take a walk around this place. It then leads you down to Victoria station for the parents to connect for work. Lots of things to do for DC in general.

If you want to go towards the Senior school, going towards parliament, then there is a little market somewhere around Horsefery road. You have all the amenities and shops like Tesco and Sainsburys. But Victoria road seems to be the main place to go with cinema, theatre etc. You are still a walk away for both schools.

For Belgravia, the best place would be near Elizabeth street, which has everything and just a spitting distance from Vic stations. So walking to school. That part is really village like and will give you everything till Pimlico Road. You have easy walk to both St James and Hyde Park either way. If you live further up, closer to Hyde Park, no problem either as you can easily get a 5 minute direct bus to the Victoria or Vauxhall Road area. All the while being close to the big shops near Harrods. If you have smaller DC, the place is heaving with good pre-preps.

Chelsea is ofcourse the ultimate in 'village feel'. Especially Kings roads.

The beauty of WUS is that its one of those schools that are ultimate centre of London schools. Students come from everywhere. So it could be Kensington, Notting Hill, Camden, Lambeth, Oval etc. There will either be one bus that puts you right next to the school on Vauxhall Bridge or Victoria station, or you just need one change or a direct tube line.

If you identify a place or two, let us know and maybe we could say how you get to school.

@Mummy195 - My god thank you so so much for taking the time out to write in such details! I am so touched . It gives me such useful insight into the area and today I am intending to explore all these areas /specific roads you have mentioned today itself. Many many thanks once again. I will definitely keep you posted!

How are you settling in WUS so far .

WUSstarter · 20/04/2024 05:57

@Londoner78 Hi there - I hope your son is settled in well at WUS. What did you think of the areas that you looked at to move to please? We are now in the same situation -- planning to move to be walking distance from the school, but we don't know that area well. Any thoughts gratefully appreciated!
