DS got into the Hall school so we will be moving to the Hampstead area this summer. We are looking to find a good nursery & primary school for DD who is one year old currently. Any recommendations? Is there a particular school where the siblings of the Hall boys go to? We really like Bute House and Pembridge Hall but sadly they are too far away.

Sarum hall is fantastic, all 3 of my DD went there. Non selective but produces excellent results.
Then there is SHHS, all through (selective) and St Christophers (selective).
Also St Anthonys girls is great according to my friends, although newer but got good results last year.
Then there is also St Marys, the village and Devonshire house but personally wouldn't rate them as high as ones above but each to their own!

Thank you. This is very helpful. Are you able to recommend any local nurseries for a 1.5 year old? Ideally those that could also help prepare for assessments for SHHS and St. Christophers. Sarum Hall looks fantastic but starts at 3 and we are looking for something between 1.5-3 years.

Hi @user1486984759

so.... great local nurseries that prep girls.....

  1. The Avenue Pre prep (Up to end of year 1)
  2. Heathside Prep and Nursery (mixed exit points - reception, 4+, 7+)
  3. St Marks Nursery (Up to end of year 1)

Good luck!

Congrats on getting an offer from the Hall! Well done on your DS. I can highly recommend Hampstead Hill School (nursery year starts at 2). Really lovely and stimulating environment. DD is very happy and she got into 2 highly selective girls schools in North London, including one of the schools on your list. I also heard good things about Clowns nursery (friend’s DC went there), Murberry House and Broadhurst - no experience with the latter two however.

Congratulations on the offer to the Hall.

I would recommend Clowns nursery (both children went there). The Manor House section of the nursery caters for children taking the 4+ and the owner has excellent connections with the most popular schools (especially Channing). My kids were really happy there and had loads of fun also.

Broadhurst start at 2. They are very familiar with both SHHS and St Christopher's.

I would strongly recommend St Mary's Hampstead. It has just had an amazing set of result for 11 plus . They are also very transparent in terms of publishing exact nos of offers unlike some of the other schools in the area who give a list of exit schools without saying if they had 1 or 10 offers there. It's a lovely school- doesn't feel pushy, girls very happy, gets great results at 11plus. They won't be prepping girls for 4+ entrance to SHHS or St Christopher's though because they have their own prep school up to 11, which is going from strength to strength.

Dear Knowledgeable Parents,

I'm looking for anyone who knows about St Anthony's School for Girls in Golders Green.
I'm particularly interested in the pastoral care and friendships between the girls there.
I am looking to join in Year 2 and Year 4

Many thanks for your advice.

InTheNewHouse · 23/11/2021 22:44

Hi @Sayonara13 I haven't heard much recently about St A's girls so I'm afraid I can't help there.

If you're happy with a Catholic education, have you visited St Mary's? I think it's genuinely brilliant and continues to go from strength to strength.

My DD have just left. We still miss it!

WDPP · 04/12/2021 23:22

@Sayonara13 definitely look at St Mary's. I can't imagine a happier, more nurturing environment. It's a one off. The girls do really well academically. It's non selective but streamed (subtly). Pastoral care is amazing and it has a genuinely kind and loving atmosphere. The girls thrive as a result. I never want mu daughter to leave!
