Primary application

I've applied for my daughter's school. We are in the catchment. 0.4km away. Last year's furthest place was given to 0.55km away.
My landlord wants to sell and I have found a new place but its further from the school. Same area but now more like 1km away. How will this effect application? Should I stay put as long as possible and risk losing what I found or is the application set in stone now with my current, close address ?

You are in a slightly difficult position. The first thing to ask is when did you find out that your landlord wants to sell, followed by what notice period have you been given as when those dates are may well change the advice.
Ideally you should try and get the landlord to accept a date of moving out of 1st May. That is after the date when school places will be allocated and given to you. If that can be agreed then there is no issue, the place was offered in good faith using the address both when you applied and when you were offered the place. Just confirm the place before you tell the council that you are having to move. You do need to keep the correspondence from the landlord confirming dates etc.
If your moving date is before the 16th April then you are obliged to inform the council of the change of address. When you are moving and when you knew you had to move then will dictate whether or not the council will insist on using the new address or not. Different LAs have slightly different procedures for this difficult period between applying for a place and getting the place, so you will need to speak to the admissions people sooner rather than later.

Our nextdoor neighbours are in the same position - landlord wants to sell, but they have to be given six months' notice because of new covid regulations. Does that apply to you?

Thanks for messages. We are in a slightly unusual situation. Landlord is actually my nans partner, so it's within the family, meaning we don't have a strict notice period. He is only selling as he has run out of treatment options for an illness....
We have been in the property over 5 years and discussion about moving to allow him to carry out his final activities came up last week.
Just seems such a shame to lose out of a school place because we are 500 metres further away than when we first applied. I think I've found the right email address to speak to someone. Fingers crossed I get a straight answer.
