School lunch

Hello,

LO has been going to school as a key-workers child. I have a small issue that I flagged up with school but they do not appear to have acted on so not sure if it’s sensible to chase it as the person who I spoke to is apparently the chair of all school governors ie very senior!

Basically LG (reception year) reported to me last week tearfully that she was excluded of ‘ham’ last week (has been having ham at school with no issues before) and somehow the person who I mentioned above thought that it was there in her diet record but she checked in front of me and that wasn’t the case so she apologised and said she will flag this up for next week and it shouldn’t be a problem.

Next week is this week and same thing continues. LO again reports me rather with heavy voice that ‘Mrs so and so said I could have it but she didn’t keep up her promise’! she is being given plain cheese sandwich which she doesn’t like but anyhow eats at school.

I do not know at this time when staff are busy with other stuffs, whether this is appropriate to raise this and what would be the best way, if after talking to higher person this hasn’t been acted. It’s a petty thing as we have been giving her ham at home regularly but I guess when peers are having it and you are being excluded this is not going well with the little girl.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much

No idea why / how it came about that you spoke to the Chair of Governors, but it just seems likely they forgot.
Just mention it to whoever it is you see when you drop her off at school.

I would wait and see if it happens a third time before you contact school to say your DD had cheese sandwiches 2 weeks in a row and would like ham instead.

She happened to pick the phone. I thought she is admin person but I was looking into the school website and found out her designation!

A school governor (Chair or not) wouldn't usually have anything to do with which sandwich a child had for lunch.

Much better to speak to whoever you drop your DD off at school with or send a quick email to the school office asking them to check that they have the correct dietary record for her.

Chances are that it was someone erring on the side of caution and not wanting to accidentally give ham to a child who might be a vegetarian or unable to eat it for religious reasons.

Oh ok may be I am mixing two names. She is the one who keeps sending emails from school admin team re various messages from school head teacher.

I'd definitely go with telling the teacher/TA that you drop DD off with then. That way the message won't get lost.

However the message gets there, hopefully your DD will get the food that she wants this time. Flowers

Thank you all so much xx

Very unlikely to be the chair of governors.
