Primary school application gone wrong/late

Hi All,

Please don't slate me as I've come on here to vent as I'm so stressed I cannot sleep.

Have had a mental breakdown recently due to the cladding crisis and its really taken its toll on me including side effects from drugs that have been perscribed.

I thought I had applied for my son school in Essex. I chose his preferences which is the last step shown on the Essex application video.

However when I signed in tonight to check though I can see his application, his preferences and the time these were last fiddled with (12th jan) it says application was not submitted in time!

I'm completely beside myself, I don't understand at all. I've sent an email to the submissions asking to confirm have they received it. I probably just messed something up.

I'm so worried, my son has suspected autism. I have been trying to get him seen for the past year but thanks to covid he's not been able to get assessed or any help. Nursery have told me he will need help at school and now I'm just feeling so low again that I can't even figure out an online application correctly.

Has anyone applied for an essex primary school online and could explain the process?
I don't want to click new application incase they have somewhat received my application, I chose 3 of 4 spaces so I'm wondering is this why its flagged as not submitted.

It says online that the last date is the 15th January. Because you can see your application and preferences, I would guess that there's a blip on their side of things.

You say that the last step shown on the video is choosing preferences...and you did that...therefore it's not your fault.

Did you not receive any confirmation email? I think you should have got one of those.

I'm not as confident as the last poster. I don't have access to the Essex online application form, but many similar systems have a Save button allowing you to save a partly completed application and a separate Submit button to click when you are happy that your form is complete. If Essex is like that, the fact you can see your preferences simply means you clicked Save and does not show that your application has been submitted.

You need to talk to the Essex admissions team. They will be able to tell you the status of your application.

You will still get a place even if you have applied late, but it is less likely to be at one of your preferred schools.

We’re in Essex and I’ve just completed the secondary application for my third child. You definitely get a confirmation email listing your choices, from Essex Education Portal. Can you check your junk email?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/01/2021 08:04

I agree with the previous poster - ring (or email) the admissions department at the council, and ask them to check the status of your application.

If it was made late, it may not be the end of the world, depending on your choice of school. They still process late applications, but you need to make sure the application has been fully submitted.

Useruseruserusee · 19/01/2021 08:11

I have applied for Essex in the past and I’m sorry to say that there is a final submit application button that it looks like you haven’t pressed.

If your application is late it will not be a disaster. Try not to panic.

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/01/2021 08:13

We’re not in Essex, but I got an email from our local authority confirming receipt of application.

And when I started it and hadn’t totally submitted I got weekly emails telling me it wasn’t complete.

xcxcsophiexcxc · 20/01/2021 14:47

I'm just so annoyed with myself.
I called and was told to email. The email was rather unhelpful and just said it would be treated as a late application.
To me the instructions were really unclear as it doesn't even tell you that you are to expect a confirmation email.
I'm just want him to have an equal opportunity not to be failed even more because mummy couldn't figure out how to work the form properly

@xcxcsophiexcxc I don’t think they will accept being unclear as a reason. There is a submit button, and the vast majority of forms you complete online for any reason will have a submit button.
He will be allocated a primary school it just may not be your first choice.

@
@xcxcsophiexcxc this link may help with the next steps . ( of you scroll down to page five it does say you would receive email confirmation of a submission).

I agree with prh47bridge. It sounds as if you saved the application rather than submitted it and the email from the admission authority seems to bear that out. It will therefore be treated as a late application.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/01/2021 15:34

Wait and see what school he gets, OP. If you aren't happy with it, you can immediately ask to be put on the waiting list for the school (or schools) of your choice. There is every chance you end up with a school you are happy with in the end.

Don't feel bad - this happens to quite a few people every year.
