Thanks. So my DS is in Purple one , what do the blue one next to purple mean?

The blue is the equivalent book band used by ORT and other publishers

Red and green aren't the lowest levels.
Dd is on the teal book band now, she does excel with her phonics and reading. Unfortunately she's behind in her writing though, she really struggles with it.

Blue in Oxford Reading Tree is where children are expected to be at the end of Reception / start of year 1. See my previous post to see what age group all the colours on the left apply to by school year.

Sounds like your son is about where he should be especially given how covid likely disrupted learning

Red and green are the lowest in RWI. That's why there is the conversion chart to help the OP as many people will be using ORT banding colours instead.

My ds is on orange level and has been doing sound set 3. He is yr1 with a summer birthday. I can't say I love the rwi books and we often read other books as well as his reading books. However, I think the scheme is really good at ensuring all the kids in school learn how to read particularly those who might not have support at home. As an aside a child should not be held back on the scheme because their writing does not match their reading ability.
