Didn’t spot a thread for Reception year!

Quite honestly I have come on here to have a bit of a moan about remote learning. I have a 4 year old in reception and and a 2 year old I look after at home. My OH works.
The school expects my child to do the following video meeting times- 9am, 10.40am, 12am, 3pm... and an extra PE session each week. Each session is supposed to be 20 mins each however more like 30-40 mins after going through all the technical issues!
I'm grateful my child can access this work and can see his teachers, but I just think this is too much for the family. I can't physically watch my younger child and sit with my boy during the sessions. I don't get chance to get any washing up or laundry done in between and he is expected to do work in between and then upload it all for the teachers to review.
What about getting out for our daily exercise and fresh air... the longest period of time we get to do that is between 12.30 and 2.45 -- but my youngest has his nap then, it just feels impossible and has really got me down.... and I'm only on day 3!!
I think I'm just going to have to miss a few sessions not only for my children's wellbeing but for my mental health!
And as someone else said what if you are working from home... it wouldn't be possible!
Rant over... I feel much better now Smile
Does anyone else feel the same??

Oh yes, I feel the same. I said the same, when on earth can I take the kids out from some exercise when it starts to get dark soon after the schooling ends? 🤷‍♀️

We already had the half termly work on the website for any children isolating.

We are emailed every day with suggestions,

  • read, write, inc phonics and spelling sessions which are on YouTube
  • handwriting practice 3 letter
  • maths activity
  • read a book with an adult
And one other activity

With a toddler around I’m struggling to fit in all in.

Thanks I’ve just ordered some from the set. Smile

We answered the door today and one of his teachers had delivered his book bag with a nice selection of books at his level and the next level up just in case. I could have cried!
It was such a lovely thing to do esp given that she was doing it for each of her kiddies learning at home.
DS was jumping up and down with excitement. Grin it had brightened his day.

I love the app "Poio learn to read" for children just learning letter sounds or CVC words (went through it with my preschooler last lockdown - as well as sounds and letters she picked up things like word order on a page etc). It's fun enough for them to play it independently. About £5 I think - money extremely well spent.

Also Dragonbox Numbers is an excellent app, again suitable for a yr R child to play independently - about £7.
