How many key workers children in your primary school?

My school has 70% of children eligible Shock All the staff will be in full time including lunchtime supervisors etc. We might as well be open to everyone in my opinion!

Wow, thought we were 'busy' with 50% of children signed up. A bit of a comparison to March when that percentage was about 3%. Take care

TessApricot · 05/01/2021 20:35

50% - 100 in total which seems a lot.

UserID · 05/01/2021 20:39

They’re not all key workers children though are they? There are other categories that mean a child has a school place.

MistleTOEboughski · 05/01/2021 20:40

We have about 30% which I think is still quite a lot, 80 children out of 250.

Nonamesavail · 05/01/2021 20:41

About 55% at ours

starrynight19 · 05/01/2021 20:45

Just less than half but that’s vulnerable as well not just keyworker.

TessApricot · 05/01/2021 20:46

@UserID yes, sorry - I meant 50% of pupils in.

mater71 · 05/01/2021 20:49

We have about 40% key worker and vulnerable children.

scubadub · 05/01/2021 21:06

I gave no idea....schools here in Ireland are completely closed...for everyone. Sad

Wowcherarestalkingme · 05/01/2021 21:18

30% all key worker children or children with EHCPs

Pipandmum · 05/01/2021 21:31

My school is private (secondary and senior school) and has about 40 kids of key workers thatvrok up a place, which is 10% of the junior school population, but during the first lockdown they also took any key worker (or vulnerable) child from surrounding state schools if there were too few for the school to remain open, and I assume they will do the same this time.
Some of the teachers chose to conduct their online classes from school: particularly science teachers.

The one person who did not get a single day off, who had to work all through Easter Bank holidays, half terms etc, was the school nurse. She got there early to take teachers temperatures and make sure sanitations stations were set up, took temps of all the kids, and was there during the whole day. Didn't get paid anything extra either. The headmaster was there the whole time too (and did an amazing job) but he gets paid considerably more!

Unless that is a school with vulnerable children e.g specialist school the school needs to operate a rota system. The point of being closed is to reduce transmission. having 70% in school will not achieve this and is unfair on school staff.

HUGS65 · 05/01/2021 21:38

That seems a lot of childreni was expecting 10

Clarityiskey · 05/01/2021 21:45

65% ish

Bythepath · 05/01/2021 21:50

I don't know the exact numbers but I have 3DC in primary (both my DH and I are work out of home for social services). One has about 1/3 of the class in and the other 2 about 1/4. Based entirely on whatsapp group chat I would say our school has about 30% in.

rolliy · 05/01/2021 21:58

How do many posters know who is in school & the reasons why?

Ginfizplease · 05/01/2021 22:00

12%

OverTheRubicon · 05/01/2021 22:02

Just over a quarter of children in here, in outer London, where you only need one key worker parent.

FreekStar · 05/01/2021 22:27

The 70% includes vulnerable and key worker children- the number of vulnerable children is low- most are key workers. Most have just one key worker- some are taking a place even though they have a non-working parent at home because the other parent is a key worker and they just prefer to send their children to school. The head is reluctant to challenge parents so is just accepting all key worker's children- whether they genuinely need to be in school or not.

I think that some of these percentages are ridiculous and to be blunt it sounds as though the parents are taking the absolute piss.

Tighter restrictions should be in place. Evidence that they are a CW. Proof they're working out of the home and if two parents both should be out of the home and CW imo.

Until these numbers reduce to absolute minimum numbers, that truly reflect the community and meet the above, numbers will just climb.

Given that there's evidence now that teachers are 3 to 4 times more at risk, this is absolutely selfish behaviour.

FreekStar · 05/01/2021 22:28

I'm not sure what can done- there doesn't seem to be a limit set by the gov. like there was back in June

I wonder of schools have to submit numbers to the DFE.
