How to improve creative writing of Y1

Dear DD wrote this piece this morning. She was October born. one of the oldest in her year (Y1). She started to show interest writing things down. How to encourage her to write stories with more imagination?

I agree with @sashh. Leave her writing alone, just read with her.

Well done OP for getting your year 1 child’s writing to this level.. or is it a stealth boast or mischievous attempt to panic year 1 parents with an older child’s writing? It is very good and the suggestions given are good. Sceen setting before starting the story by her drawing a scene or creating a scene with objects then talk about it with her encouraging use of adjectives. Also perhaps try playing a game where you take turns to continue a story idea in conversation so she gets used to thinking how to develop her story.

I have to say all the suggestions are so useful and recommended books! What a great purchase! I bought three and DD really enjoyed using them, especially the poem one. She read about limerick and their spelling test this week is the ay a-e sound. She put the words together in sentences and she was very proud when she read to me. ( she noticed some mistakes and she wants to correct them , add on the date and then submit it to the teachers)
