Brookland Infant and Nursery / Junior schools

Hi all,

Any input on both Brookland Infant/Nursery and Junior Schools ? Whether you currently have a child there or used to or know of anyone who does, any feedback (positive or not) would be greatly appreciated.

Can one assume that if they live in the northern part of Hampsted Garden Suburb (i.e. in the triangle between A1, A406 and East End Road) they are likely to have a place for their child in both the nursery and thereafter at reception ?

Would you say that the school is representative of London's rich social and cultural diversity ?

How many kids do they have per class on average ?

Coming from a country (France) where state schools are generally very good and one wouldn't typically look at private schools options, we'd like to have as much feedback as we can on the schools we are considering for our daughter.

Thank you !

I don't know the school, but looking at the admission arrangements, the schools have a "priority area" that encompasses the area you are looking at and last year everyone in that area that applied for a reception place got one.

They have a 90 intake, and three classes per year, so 30 per class (which is pretty normal here).

Thank you @PatriciaHolm ! Is it also usual that teachers have assistants to help in classroom ?

Hi, have a DD in the infant school currently.
If you live in the 'triangle' this is a priority area for admissions at reception (conducted by Barnet council) however is not guaranteed entry. A few years ago, not all children got in due to being heavily over-subscribed.
Nursery entry is conducted by the school itself and criteria is found on the website. Related to 30 hours and 15 hours free provision given by the government. My DD didn't go to that nursery.
I believe priority is given to cared for children, then siblings of children already in the school, then distance (but this can change).
The infant school generally has a teaching assistant present for most of the week and there are 30 children in each class, and 3 classes per year.
