White Rose Maths worksheets

I purchased a some CGP maths books for my son who is in year 2. The book requires 10 mins of study per week - 10 min work out each week.
He has said he wants to to White Rose Maths worksheets instead, as they sometimes use White Rose Maths at his school.
Looking at the website each lesson has a 2 page worksheet so there are almost 10 worksheets to do each week.
Is it advisable to try and work through the worksheets in his manner. The questions are thorough and they use lots of illustrations so they would help him but I feel he will be overwhelmed as he is only 6. I was thinking of getting him to do only a few pages each week to supplement his school work and doing left over parts over the summer. Is this sensible or is white rose maths for school?

Yes the white rose would be too much to do at home. It will also be very dull for him to repeat what he is doing in class exactly. You can use the white rose home learning videos instead to talk through any lessons he found tricky but again there is a video for every single lesson so a bit much. I think they also have end of topic workbook packs you can buy and you can see the schemes of work which have a few questions for each lesson in there which might be easier than the whole worksheet.

Something like Power Maths might work well as it follows the White Rose order so will supplement what he is doing in school. The CGP 10 minute ones are good too. They are often mixed topics so good for retention. It depends what you want!

You could ask his teacher what they recommend.

I'm a Year 2 teacher and we use the White Rose resources at my school. I really wouldn't recommend it for home use. It is very whole-class based - a mix of discussion, demonstration and independent activity. For the younger years especially a lot of concrete and practical resources are used and many of these are things that you may not be familiar with as a parent.

For my own DC, I stick to CGP-style books which are good at reinforcing what they have learned at school rather than teaching.

Sorry, that wasn't too clear. For my own primary-aged DC at home, I use the workbooks as additional support to what they are doing in school. They use Power Maths in their school, but I don't think that's particularly good for home use either.

Also just to say that the WR worksheets/workbooks they sell on their websites are the same as the ones the teachers can pay for access to. If you know he uses them at school it’s likely he will be doing exactly the same worksheets in two places. This will be boring for him and very annoying for the teacher when she hands him a sheet and he says he did it the night before 😂

CGP is probably better for home to be honest.
