please can you reassure me that it wasn't too traumatic and they adjusted fairly quickly?

one moved in year 5, one year 3,
i think the rest of the class were glad for some new blood

So they were popular at first? Did that wear off quickly though, or did they make good friends easily?

I moved my 2 children....daughter was in yr 4 and son was in reception. Reason was the original primary was crap (!). Both have never looked back although at the time I found it very upsetting and found there was very little support available for such a difficult decision.
Daughter started high school this time and is settled in very nicely. I think the last 2 yrs of a good primary set her up well and remain convinced if she had stayed where she was, things would not be so good.
She made friends real quickly and has kept them.

Ds moved at summer half term of Y3, and loved it from day 1, even though he was dead set against the idea.

Now just started Y4, and still happy as Larry. Never looked back.

Have just done this, moved dd3 school so she has just started in Yr 4. She has settled in fine, though most in class have formed their friends of course. On the positive side i have always found year 3 to be a very bitchy year with girls - teachers have agreed with me on this - so i think year 4 is a better year to change.

Thanks all! It's such a nervewracking thing to do, but I'm hoping it will all work out for the best.

my dds best friend only joined in yr 4
she was so delighted to have a new person joining - new blood as elasticmum said - and they hit it off immediately
think it is a good time to move

slondonmum · 20/10/2007 19:33

yep my DD has just gone into Y4 at a new school -- seems to be settling in fine
