Teachers/parents/governors - does your primary or junior school have over 400 pupils?

If your school is a 'large' primary (>350 pupils) do you know what management time there is?

We are trying to find out whether our school is representative. We have:
c.420 pupils YR-Y6
Non-teaching Head
Two Assistant Head, each have 1 day per wk management time (on top of 0.5 PPA)
No Deputy Head

i.e. total of 7 management days per week. (I don't think that's very much given the size of the school.)

[We also have a non-teaching SENCO]

We have 440 pupils and it's a split site.

Non-teaching head

Non-teaching deputy for the Infants

Non-teaching deputy for the Juniors

saggers · 19/10/2007 21:55

We are a four form entry Junior school
Approx. 480 pupils.
Non-teaching Head
No Deputy
Two Assistant Heads - one is in class 2 days a week. They both provide cover within school when it is needed, although we do have a teacher whose role that is primarily.
So 13 management days in theory, although if cover is needed I suppose it would be less.

Thanks, this is very helpful.
Any more?

I'll put you down for 10 mgt days Celia (SENCO extra)
How many pupils in the school?

Full roll of 420 (though slightly fewer right now).

Non-teaching head.
Non-teaching deputy (who is our assessment co-ordinator).
Both head and deputy teach some KS2 classes on a Friday (non-curriculum day).
Senco not a class teacher, but does teaches children in pull-outs. Not sure how many teaching hours.

I would say it's 10 days of management time.

jennifersofia · 20/10/2007 07:40

470 (inner london)
non teaching head
(non teaching deputy)
3 assistant heads, 1=senco, 1=foundation stage/Y1 manager, 1= ks2 manager. All cover PPA and management.
Does that help?

doddle · 20/10/2007 10:18

We have approximately 600 children.

Non teaching head and deputy

2 assistant heads who teach 2.5 days

so 15 days for them

All age phase leaders (that's head of Key Stage 1 or Early Years etc) have half a day week and all core curricular leaders (maths, english, science) have half a day a week. So that is another 3.5 days a week

So a total of 18.5 days a week

roisin · 20/10/2007 12:35

This is all extremely helpful: thank you so much.

Any more?

Jennifersofia - do all 3 of your assistant heads not have classes of their own? (Mind you if they do all the PPA cover between them, that probably amounts to at least a large % of their time.) Do you know how much management time they are allocated per wk?

bump for the evening crowd.
any more statistics?

OP posts:
RosaTransylvania · 20/10/2007 23:54

450 pupils
Non-teaching head
Four assistant heads teaching 1 day non-teaching each to include PPA time
Full-time SENCO - not sure how much non-contact time she has as she does not have a class.

Cat64 - our govs think AHs should have more mgt time to support the HT (and I agree), but they don't seem to know what's 'normal'. (We are the largest primary in our County/LEA).

Roison - we are middle school (Y5 to y8) with around 730 pupils......

roisin · 21/10/2007 09:40

I'd be interested in your stats if you know them Popsycal.
Total days management/assessment time per wk (excl any specific PPA time)
SENCO separate

I'd be interested in details if you have time to add them too.

Celia, I'm confused.
You have: Non teaching head, deputy teaches 0.3 in groups, SENCo has 2 days non teaching, assessment cordinator has 1 1/2 non teaching days
But also [?] have 4.5 non class based teachers. Our staff structure is about to be reorganised so we are all waiting to see what happens.

Does this 4.5 include those mentioned above, or not? Are these 4.5 to cover PPA time and so on, or do they have management time?

popsycal · 21/10/2007 13:13

roisin - I have emailed you

foxinsocks · 21/10/2007 13:29

I don't really know how this all works. My two are at a big primary school (c700 pupils) and they have a non teaching head and deputy. A SENCO who has a class but job shares it so she gets (I THINK) 1.5/2 days not on PPA or teaching.

There's also 1 teacher who is allocated head of foundation stage (and I assume a similar junior position). There's also a part time business manager.

foxinsocks · 21/10/2007 13:30

the teachers who are head of their stage have full time classes
