Issue with the school bus - how to deal with it?

My dd1 and ds go to school on the bus. They are on it for about 30 mins each way per day, and sometimes the minibus that picks them up has an integral DVD player. So sometimes they watch DVDs on the way home (never in the morning - the driver likes 'that boring radio' (dd1's words - Radio 2!).

Anyway, this afternoon (and its half way through half term up here so theyhavent been on the bus since last friday) ds pipes up that he wants to see the rest of 'Pirates of the Carribean'.

Me: ????????? where did you see that?

Ds: On the bus!

I'm mad. My kids are 5 and 7. POTC has a 12 certificate. Noone asked my permission to show it to them, and ds has had nightmares about films in the past.

AIBU? My intention is to :

  1. speak to the bus driver on Monday am to express my displeasure
  2. phone the transport provider to express my displeasure
  3. phone the school - so they can see if this is happening elsewhere on school transport

Too much? Too litle? About right? Just not sure!

well generally speaking if I wanted to make a complaint about something I would do it in writing, so I would write to the transport provider asking them to provide only age-appropriate viewing material and send a copy to the school.

I would do 3.
I have never heard of this - blimey, TV really is taking over the world!! What happened to doing your homework on the bus

You are not being unreasonable IMO.
Is it the same Radio 2 loving bus driver all the time? Is he friendly/nice? Is it him that decides what's played? If so I would probably talk to him first and say you would make a formal complaint if it happened again. Ask him in general terms if there is any policy on this. That way you've given him fair warning and not alienated him/made him lose his job or something. He might not have been giving it proper thought. If its different drivers every day or driver is surly rude type character then formal approach to bus company/school/council might be better.

YANBU but I wouldn't go straight to all-out war, I'd assume the driver just hadn't thought about it from a parent's POV. If it is always the same driver, I'd have a quiet word with him first, for the reasons Maisy gave. If not, a calm letter to the bus company copied to the school would be my first step.

Makes me feel very old, when I was on a school bus we had to make our own entertainment, etc. etc. Biggest thrill was driver stopping off at the farm to pick up his spuds!

Thanks.

Same driver every day, so will talk to him on Mon (or send out dh, who is much more reasonable than I am!! )

Just think its a bit out of line for my 5 and 7 yo

Glad to hear INBU!
