DS(8) loves school, is very popular, has no problems is very able academically, is in top sets for all subjects, only problem we have is that he does not settle down to work quickly in class. it takes him 10 - 15 minutes longer than the other children to get started on work - which means he does not finish any of his lessons as he runs out of time. Teacher says his work is not reflecting his ability due to this, becasue we know he can do it. Does fine once he gets going.
When I sit down to do homework with him it's the same - he messes with pencils and pensil grips, and his mind wonders off at a tangent - he just can't seem to get focussed quickly. He doesn't talk in class or mess about or bother anyone else - he just seems to drift off!
Teacher says he does seem to think differently - most children in a class that go up and ask him a question will ask a question related to what they are working on. DS will go and ask Questions on completely non related matters - totally random.
I have tried talking to him - but he tries for a couple of days and then 'forgets'. We had same comments last year in Yr 3 - but I thought he would grow out of it!
Any suggestions as to how I can get him to get on with what he is supposed to be doing?
rather than thinking about something completely different?
