Reading level in year 1 primary.....what should I expect?

Hi, DD has just started in year 1 primary, and seems to be doing well with her reading. She's come home today with a note in her reading record saying "well done you've gone up to level 4". Is this a good acheivement as I have absolutely no idea what level she should be on (ok makes me look like a bit of a sap but there you go lol!)? Any info gratefully received. Cheers

This is what I was looking for. I don't know if it helps. All reading books in your school may be stickered with a colour relating to this grid.

The one I was thinking of had a list of scheme books, grouped by band.

Ours were nothing like this either. They had more in common with ORT but not quite the same.

There's a version of the orderinghere but no colour bands

The offical classifications is via Book Bands:

As I understand it, only Rigby Rocket reading scheme actually matches it's books to the colours. Children should be at band 8 or 9 at the end of Yr 2.

Doh! Not only can I not do links, but my one was the same as Hamster's.
Send me to the back of the class lol!

Mrsaek, just to say, the only way to find out for sure is to ask, but (most) schools are v cagey about telling you where your child is in terms of level of ability...
