Hope GL chat ok too! My DS did test 2 years ago and I felt school helpful, that year (and all other years as far as I can gather) from June they did 1 or 2 tests a week, covered all work and one to do at home. Same teacher.
This year we have had nothing, no mention of dates, no papers, in June a text message suggesting some papers we could buy and mark and do at home over the summer.
There are about 10 in class doing GL and one doing GL and AQE.
I am so annoyed, but I know they don’t have to provide any help.

I’m just waiting to see if there is ANY homework, never mind transfer prep.

Yes GL more than welcome too! 😀
Thats very strange that they not assisting in same way. Did u ever chat school about it?

Hi Brew thanks for setting this up.

Eldest DS is due to do AQE in Jan. Some of his classmates are doing AQE/GL.

Haven't checked his school bag yet, will do so later.

Coffeeandaride · 16/10/2020 14:55

From the 17th March (apart from the text message) no communication from teacher. Picked up 2 work packs during lockdown but these weren’t marked.
I wrote a note for teacher at end Aug to say what she had been studying/ what she is good at/what she is finding harder. Got a note back to say all the topics would be covered in school - nil else. All topics not covered.

I might call and arrange a meeting after half term. I feel like pulling her out one day a week to study for this, it will soon be here! I work full time hours but not every week day and I have 4 DC at school, so in evenings we hardly get any done (my fault).
Is this extreme? Blush

Does your DS have a school in mind?

hopeishere · 16/10/2020 15:55

We found a tutor was useful as they helped with technique.

jessyjo2 · 16/10/2020 16:09

Coffee think I would still chat teacher to understand the logic behind it. Maybe teacher still intending to cover those missing topics.

Hello. We have 2 practice papers a week, which is what they're doing in school now & have included 2 for the standard Halloween week.

Our school was rubbish through lockdown - put up revision sheets but marked nothing.

I'm fed up with it & hate the wasted extra time when they could Be studying useful. Stuff that would provide a better base for (hopefully), grammar school & the new subjects they'll encounter.

Id also prefer it if they allowed pupils just to do the papers in their own school.

StillCounting123 · 18/10/2020 19:03

I agree with you buck would love if they could do exams in their own school. My DS is anxious about doing exams in a school he doesn't know the layout of.

Coffeeandaride · 18/10/2020 23:22

Thanks jessyjo, was a bit annoyed when I wrote that above but speaking to teacher is prob best, at least to know what they are planning.

Yes doing the test in their own school would be better for all I think.

She has had no papers or homework for half term.
My DD says she was told by teacher they wouldn’t be doing any papers through school at all.

She’s done 2 papers this weekend off her own bat, so half term off to a good start!

jessyjo2 · 20/10/2020 23:30

We got a few tests home for the holidays, DS not too excited but he knows it has to b done.
Does anyone know roughly how many kids be in a test centre at 1 time? Im trying to understand how likely it would be that they will be able to have test go ahead in the normal fashion. Surely if a test centre say holds 100 kids from various schools it cant go ahead in 3 months time. Hope im wrong on that. Yes agree best thing if they can do it in own school. Sorry hope im not coming across as a bit negative.

So what do you all think of the latest developments? Can you see the AQE going ahead? Heard someone talking about taking their child out of school until after 3rd exam, anyone else considering this? I guess a lot will change in next few weeks.
