I'm getting a bit warn down by the to-ing and fro-ing to pick up ds2 who started rec in Sept. Its 2pm until half term.....so I drop down all 3 at 9, back at 11.30 for dd in nursery, 2pm for ds2 in rec and 3.30 for ds1 in Y2.

I know i'm probably unusual in having 3 so close, but bleedin nora.

Anyone else heard of 2pm finish till half term? Don't geddit!

we had 2m finish, they said for few weeks, but it lasted a week teachers said theyd all settled well so took it back to 3pm as norm..poor you, your feet must be killing you!, thats 4 round trips!, i do 3 and I'M shatterd

oliveoil · 10/10/2007 13:45

oh that sounds crap, I did one week of mornings and one week of afternoons, then full time

and that was bad enough

drop dd2 at playgroup, come home with dd1
go back to pick up dd2, come back
drop dd1 off at school, come back
go back to pick up dd1, come back

OrmIrian · 10/10/2007 13:47

Ha! Have already posted at length about this but here we go...

DS#1 started off doing 12.30 till 3.
After 3 weeks went to 9.00-12.00
At some unspecified point he might start doing 9-1 (with lunch)
And then.... sometime in the next few months he might be allowed to do a full school day.

niceglasses · 10/10/2007 13:48

Yeah, could understand 2 -3 weeks but don't get the till half term bit. Still, not long to go, just moaning ........

Blimey, our school must be really harsh:

There is only one class in Reception (small village school) so the class is divided up (dds class was divided in half).

On day one half the kids were in all day, day two the other half and day three the whole lot.

no mornings, afternoons etc etc. It seems to work ok and all the LOs are settling in just fine and dandy...

GreenSepticStumpsleeves · 10/10/2007 13:56

Aaargh this annoys me!! We had:

1 week of ds1 at school 8.50-11.30 and ds2 at nursery 19.15-11.45

then a week of ds1 8.50-12.00 and ds2 9.15-11.45

and now the real McCoy, ds1 8.50-3.20
and ds2 9.15-11.45

what a bloody palava

oliveoil · 10/10/2007 13:59

mine is the same as yours greeny

pita

BUT now I get Monday and Friday mornings to myself (I only clean, but anyhooo)

BOOndle · 10/10/2007 14:00

we had two weeks of part time (mornings for younger children, afternoons for pre-easter birthdays) and that was QUITE ENOUGH for me.
full time now

geogteach · 10/10/2007 14:01

I have 8.50 drop DS1 and DD at school, 12.oo pick up DD, 12.15 drop DS2 at pre school, 2.45 pick up DS2, 3.05 pick up DS1. This goes on until Christmas. good job I don't have to work for a living.

PSCMUM · 10/10/2007 14:01

thats nothing!

in our school, they take the children into reception 2 at a time.

so first week in sept- 2 children attend school from 9-11.
2nd week in sept - 4 children attend school, 2 from 9-3, 2 from 9-11.
3rd week in sept - 6 children attend school balh blah blah.

so some kids start reception the week before the christmas holidayS! This is apparnetly 'best practice' as it allows them to settle in very weel. It totally overlooks that almost all of them have been full time in the schools nursery and so are tottaly used to it already!

many many cross working parents tearing their hair out!

mrsmerton · 10/10/2007 14:02

My youngest ds finishes reception at midday until Christmas. That's only half an hour later than his old nursery! Then its all day from Christmas. I would like to have a choice as to when my child goes all day. I say now!!

ChippyMinton · 10/10/2007 15:02

It all seem unnecessary to me. Mine started two weeks after the rest of the school. Went in at 10am on the first day, full time thereafter, even the youngest. From what i see every day, most seem to cope with it.

shinyhappytonks · 10/10/2007 15:14

I'll add mine as well,

DS started 1 week afternoons 1pm-3.15pm
1 wk 8.55 - 12.00
Currently doing 8.55 - 1pm

after half-term
2 wks of 1 full day, 4 half-days
2 wks of 2 full days, 3 half-days
2 wks of 3 full days, 2 half-days

I have to say i love the gentle settling in, it is good for both my ds and me and as i don't work it is not a PITA.

This 'separating' is bloody hard !

niceglasses · 10/10/2007 15:15

Oh God, here was me thinking I had a monopoply on woeful settling in process. The week before Christmas!!!!!

Fennel · 10/10/2007 15:16

Both our primary schools have been full-day from the start. So easy. The children seem fine. I don't see how we'd have coped with these staggered settlings in.

Fennel · 10/10/2007 15:17

What DO people do when both parents are both working full time? or when there's just one parent, working? Can you just send them to school a term later instead?

shinyhappytonks · 10/10/2007 16:56

I suspect that there is a fair bit of shuffling at work and sucking up to the boss

I have noticed that some of the mums pick up a couple of children, so maybe they share the collecting/drop-offs ?

our local primary school don't take the younger ones until january at all, but they go straight to full time. not sure what the point of that is....

SquirBOOdle · 10/10/2007 17:10

Crikey, how confusing for you all!!

DS2 has just started school.

He did Wednesday 8.55 - 12.00 and Thursday 1.00 - 3.30 the first week.

Next 3 weeks were 8.55 - 12.00

Now he is full time. And very happy too.

I'm lucky though because he is Autumn term born.

Spring children are mornings until half term then full time and summer children are afternoons until half term, mornings until end of November, then full time....that would just bug me!

DS1 was part time for a week then full time and settled in very well, as did most children in his class.

The day does go very fast now though! I do some to-ing and fro-ing on Weds and Thurs when DS3 is at nursery, but I don't mind as the peace is heavenly

SquirBOOdle · 10/10/2007 17:13

Saying that though, there is a lot of flexibility, so if DS were to become incredibly tired I could pick him up at lunchtime one day if I wanted. I'd only do that if he really needed it though!

happystory · 10/10/2007 17:14

lol at greeny's ds2 at nursery 19.15 to 11.45- wishful thinking ?!

SquirBOOdle · 10/10/2007 17:22

I was going to mention that, but I forgot...if only
