Kew Green Prep insights

Would appreciate insights from current KGP parents. My son is currently in year 3 at another local prep school (won’t say which as trying to stay anon and it’s a small world) but he’s really struggling to keep up academically. I have heard that KGP is more nurturing and less of a hot house than others in the area. Would you agree with this?
Also I cannot get to the bottom of whether students at KGP are always able to get a place at Kew House or not. I know the official line is that it’s not guaranteed but have also heard several people swear that it unofficially IS guaranteed. Would love some clarification on this. I really like Kew House and worry about my son at 11+ so would be great to know that route is available. Many thanks

I am not a parent but I would definitely look at KGP in your circumstances. Do try to speak directly to parents as it is also a marmite school for some, but works really well for others. Also look at Ibstock Place (transfer to secondary not guaranteed but much easier if you are already in, and they have great facilities and a lot more space which for your boy coming from where he comes from would be great), or consider holding on and trying Radnor House for Year 5, or if you are ok with religious schools St Benedicts is also a good all through alternative (but subject to exam for secondary transfer, although great pastoral care and the secondary school is really on the up, check their results). Then you have Harrodian but don't know much, although transfer to secondary is definitely guaranteed. And Falcon Prep for boys only, which goes to 13 so may give you a little more time if needed or your boy not ready to change schools at 11.

Good luck with your choices. Not unheard of as I know of a few cases of children leaving a certain Kew prep due to lack of enough performance (even earlier than Y3) or being unhappy with ethos or way of teaching (ie if you do not fit the mould for example on Asian style maths teaching or are not easy to teach then you struggle), especially some boys who will thrive in a more nurturing environment and with more physical space. They may put it on you as "we have quite a fast pace and you need to keep up" but just ignore that and find a place that will work with you and your child and will pay attention a bit more to your needs to achieve his best potential. In the end all will be fine and boys do thrive at different stages so it is more complicated than being on target each and every year.

Also not a parent but know parents that have done what you are thinking!
Complete agree that KGP is more nurturing and less of a hot house than others in the area.
Re moving to Kew House from KGP. This year at least one was wait listed (and got in) so I guess it isn't guaranteed as such, but as near as dam it I would say.
