Advice please on homework situation

Ds has his first homework from his new school. Due to tonsillitis and me being off the rails (dperession) over the last 2 weeks or so, we haven't really touched his book bag and I've discovered tonight that he has homework sue in tomorrow. We got straight onto it after the park this afternoon and he has completed all but the last sheet and a half of work.

He is past concentrating on the rest and I feel it is unreasonable of me to make him finish a week's homework in one night.

Thing is, another boy said as we were in the playground that he'd have to stay in at playtime tomorrow if it wasn't finished and ds seems to verify this is the case.

Do I send a not with homework exlaining that I do not wish for him to be penalised for my issues?

I won't go into my views on homework, suffice to say I generally disagree with it but ensure it is done because it isn't great to be too non-conformist. Geez though! These work sheets are badly presented, and thought out and ruddy tedious. I have written a not at the top of one section that says "I feel this section is confusing and badly explained" because I think it is shoddy that work should be o ambiguous and difficult for an adult to fathom.

Think I'd ask for another night to complete it , handing in what he has done with a note. How old is he ?

He's year 2 but just turned 6 in July.

If he's only 6 definitely send in a note explaining.

Now my DD is in year 4 they miss playtime if homework isn't done (or not done properly) - I think thats OK but 6 is too young for that.

Year 2 I thought you were going to say year 6 at least!!

Just send a note in. Homework at KS1 is ridiculous anyway in my book and you can tell them I said so

I's send a note or even better, try & have a quick word with his teacher in the morning.

It is so uninspiring. 'Match the words up using your biro' tedium and sums in a fairground picture. No explanation as to the technique he should be uisng and sections are totally ambiguous as to how the solutions are to be displayed.

Homework needs to better than worksheets imo or else it is merely extending the already long school day by another hour and no more.

Can't you just get on and finish it?
It souns like you've done a lot of it and just finishing it (and checking book bag sooner in future although realise you didn't mean to not check it) would be easiest thing for everyone.

Will try once more after tea but he is half way through drawing pictures of his pet and writing a caption for each picture and he really is losing interest and asking me to draw for him. I refuse to get into that one as he is perfectly capable of drawing for himself when enthused. The last page is quite involved so I may see if he can finish the page about his bunny.
